(1) There is a possibility of piston wiper Ring extrusion on Brakes P/N AHA1653,

P/N AHA1653-9 and P/N AHA1653-10.

(2) There is also possibility of the Piston and/or pistons swelling on Brakes

P/N AHA1653, AHA1653-9 and P/N AHA1653-10.

C. Description

(1) This service bulletin gives a procedure with the main wheel removed to do a visual

inspection.

(a) Visually inspect piston for swelling.

(b) Do a dimensional check of the piston.

(c) Check the brake running clearance without hydraulic pressure applied.

(1) Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems recommends compliance with this service bulletin.

(3) Measure the extension of all 5 Pistons (Ref Fig. 2.).

(a) If the extension is less than 15.00 mm (0.590 in) the measurement cannot be

taken. Just visually examine for piston swelling (Ref Fig. 3.).

(b) If the extension is 15.00 mm (0.590 in) or more use a lint free cloth to clean

the extended part of the piston.

(c) Measure the diameter of the piston at the widest part. If this dimension is

28.57 mm (1.125 in) or more, record this dimension and report the

measurement to MABS.

(d) If the dimension is 28.57 mm (1.125 in) or more remove the brake in

accordance with the applicable AMM procedure.

(e) Replace the swollen Piston(s) in accordance with CMM 32-42-93.
