Universal Screener

The screener is a short multiple-choice assessment that looks at skills taught in the previous grade. It is recommended that you assign the Universal Screener to the entire class around the first week of school, setting aside 20-30 minutes of class time. You assign the English or Spanish version Universal Screener to students from your teacher account on Savvas Realize.

Diagnostic Assessment

Once the Universal Screener is complete, results will help you place your students in the appropriate Diagnostic Assessment. The Diagnostic is a multistage adaptive assessment that identifies each student’s strength and areas for improvement adjusting to the student’s misconceptions and understandings in real time. The Diagnostic Assessment will take 40-60 minutes to complete and students will encounter a variety of technology enhanced items throughout the Diagnostic. Remember, this recommendation is informational and it is ultimately your decision which Diagnostic Assessment each student will be assigned.

Actionable Data for Teachers

Now let’s take a look at your students’ results! Click the Data tab in Savvas Realize and select the Diagnostic Assessment. The results from the Diagnostic shows which standards students are likely to need more support with during the school year. The Class Summary report gives an overall performance score and shows scores broken down by mathematical domain. Click a student’s name to see their overall scaled score, national percentile ranking, and scores by each domain. You can review the questions they encountered and see their responses.

Recommended Resources

Use the recommended resources in the assessment results to scaffold prior knowledge and offer extension with a stretch goal. You might assign some of these resources right away, but you’ll want to assign most of them to support students at the start of the corresponding topic. When planning for each new topic of instruction, return to these results to find resources to assign to individual students, small groups, or your whole class. These resources include Concept Summaries, Worked Out Examples, Concept Videos, and Practice Masters.

Actionable Data for Administrators

The administrator dashboard gives a clear picture of student performance at the district or school level. In Realize Reports, you’ll see an overall scale score, average national percentile, and average scale scores broken down by domain. Administrators can easily drill down by school, class, and student to see the precise data they need.
