THE GARDEN BRIDGE

The eagerly anticipated Garden Bridgeproposes to create both an important walkwayand a new landmark for this great city, on thedoorstep of 190 Strand. Delivering a new areaof green space and providing a vital new rivercrossing, the bridge will breathe new lifeinto an area of the north bank that is currentlyundergoing an impressive renaissance.

CULTURE & LEISURE

Throughout the 19th century, writers andthinkers gathered in fashionable Strand,and today it is also well-known as the heartof Theatreland where world class productionsare created and staged. The Royal Courtsof Justice on Strand are one of the last greatwonders of Gothic revival architecture in England. Criminal cases are heard at theOld Bailey near St Paul’s Cathedral andthe courts are open to the public.

190 Strand is also just metres from VictoriaEmbankment, with public gardens on one sideand views of the south bank of the Thames on the other. Between Strand and BuckinghamPalace lies St James’s Park, the oldest of London’s Royal Parks.

Cleopatra’s Needle is the popular name for the formidable ancient Egyptian obelisk gracing London’s Victoria Embankment. It was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis around 1450 BC and was a gift to the United Kingdom from the ruler of Egypt and Sudan in 1819. After an arduous journey by sea, the obelisk was finally erected in London in 1878.
