The Botanical Society of the University of Peradeniya (BOTSOC) joined hands with the Forest Department of Sri Lanka, Noritake Lanka Porcelain (Pvt) Ltd. and local community to restore degraded lands at Knuckles Forest Reserve on 10 th of December 2017. The aim of the program was to restore lower montane forests on degraded sites in Knuckles Forest Reserve, in order to enhance the ecosystem services including conservation of biodiversity, increase C sequestration and improve soils. Two hundred and ten representatives (110 representatives from the Faculty of Science, UoP) transplanted 1600 seedlings of native shrub/tree species into degraded sites in Riverstone area. The activities of the event included tagging and transplanting of the seedlings and establishment of herbivory exclusions. They plan to monitor these sites in future. SAVING The Next Generation
