Suggested Activities 1. Money-Saving Aspects of Dual Credit Video and Discussion Introduce the video Money-Saving Aspects of Dual Credit, in which a student learns from a college admissions officer about the advantages of earning college credit in high school. Before they view the video, ask students to watch for the following points: a. What are the advantages of dual-credit courses? b. How can these courses help you besides just giving college credit? c. What is the difference between AP courses and dual credit courses? After the video, lead a discussion about the three items they were to note. Students may or may not be familiar with specific dual credit opportunities at their school, so be ready to offer a list of courses offered. 2. Savings for One Course and Savings for Multiple Courses Dual credit or Advanced Placement courses can have different impacts on a student’s cost of attendance, depending upon how many credits they earn. The following activity allows students to explore savings associated with two options—earning credit for a single college course and shortening time to degree by earning a semester’s worth of credits (or more). The following activity may be completed using the average chart below, or using the College For All Texans website in a computer lab or if internet is available in the classroom. If students have access to the internet, encourage them to explore the colleges in which they are most interested and place the completed worksheets in their portfolios. Students may also present to the rest of the class on what they found. Costs of One College Course The chart below shows the tuition and fees associated with taking a single class at Texas public higher education institutions.
