Glossary
The following table contains definitions of the key terms that are used in this guide.
Term Definition
Attribute A subset of information of a given dimension.
For example, the dimension Product might have the attributes Product ID and ProductDescription.
Dimension A discrete category of data such as a product or resource.
Dimensions are used to segment planning data. For example, a consumer goods companymay want to understand sales based on the dimensions Product, Customer, and Location.
A dimension can have many attributes. For example, the dimension Product might have theattributes Product ID, Product Family, and Product Description.
Key figure A time-phased multidimensional set of data, that is, a series of numbers over time fordifferent attribute value combinations.
Key figures represent forward looking or projected data (such as sales forecast, consensusdemand plan) or actual data (such as sales order, shipment history) or constraints (such ascapacities).
Key figures can be:
Stored
Data is stored at base planning level for storage. This type of key figure may be
editable (for example, sales forecast quantity) or for display only (for example, actualquantity).
Calculated
The value is calculated based on a user-defined formula, for example, Revenue (Qty* Price). Typically, this type of key figure is not stored or editable.
Alert
A calculated key figure with user-defined formula that monitors and manages theexecution of business plans, for example, TargetRev vs. ConsensusRev > 10%.
Master data Dimensions, multi-dimensional attributes (for example, attributes of product-location-customer), and other entities such as bills of material and supply chain networks.
Planning area A set of the following configuration elements that together define the structure of yourplanning process:
Dimensions and attributes
Time profile

Key figures and calculations
A planning area always contains a baseline dataset and can additionally contain manyscenario datasets. They can be understood as different versions of data to carry out what-ifanalysis.
A company can have multiple planning areas to enable planning in different business units ordifferent types of planning. However, it is not possible to plan across planning areas.
Planning level A set of selected attributes from dimensions.
A planning level enables you to analyze and plan at a specific aggregation level, for example, the planning level period-product-customer. You can define one or more planning levels for aplanning area.
Time profile The time periods in which planning data can be managed (for example, weekly, monthly, andso on) and the hierarchy of the time periods.
Visibility filter The settings which allow you to manage privileges.
For example, you can use a visibility filter to define that a planner can view only ConsensusDemand Plan instances related to the planner's business unit.

Creating a Currency-Related Model
SAP S&OPs customers run their businesses worldwide and are therefore impacted by multiple currencies in theworld they operate. For global companies, this process supports the calculation and use of multiple currency keyfigures across the business.
The SAP Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) application supports the calculation of related key figures in thecontext of currency, including conversion, editions and time-phased currency conversion rates.
This section describes how an existing model in the SAP S&OP web client application can be extended to supportcurrency conversions. The currency-related data can then be viewed in the SAP S&OP add-in for Microsoft Excel.
The key benefits of creating a currency-related model are:
Empowers you to collaborate efficiently with all parties involved in your project within your company andbeyond.
Provides an accurate view of key figure values; with the values shown in currency.
Supports displaying key figures in a currency code and enables users to switch from one currency toanother.
Getting Started
Using the key figures shown in the example, namely, Price, Quantityand Revenue, this section describes howthe base planning model is changed to create the currency-related model. The aim is to extend the current modelso that it supports currency.
Base Planning Model
The table below describes the key figures used in this example:
Key Figure Key Figure Type Base Planning Model Currency-Related Model
Price Stored Period Product Location Period Product Location From
Quantity Stored Period Product Location Period Product Location From
Revenue Calculated Period Product Location Period Product Location From

Note that Revenueis calculated by multiplying Quantity and Price.
REVENUE@PerProdLoc = PRICE@PerProdLoc x QUANTITY@PerProdLoc
Workflow
The workflow below describes the process when creating a currency-related model in the SAP Sales andOperations Planning web client application and the SAP S&OP add-in for Microsoft Excel.

ExchangeRate
Define Planning Area Dimensions
Define a Planning Level
Define the Conversion Key Figures
Create Master Data
The first step is to create two standard master data types that will contain the list of source and target currencycodes, for example, EUR and USD.
Define Planning Area Dimensions
The new master data attributes should be defined as dimensions in 4.2 Planning Area Dimensions Definition .
Define a Planning Level
Define a planning level that includes both the fromand to attributesthat were defined earlier. Then mark the
attribute that came from the from master datatype as a source.
To define a planning level
1. Choose 4.6 Planning Level Attri butes.
2. Enter X to define the Conversion Sourceattributes. In this example, the From Code attribute.
3. Enter X to define the Conversion Targetattributes. In this example, the To Code attribute.
Define the Conversion Key Figures
To get started, you must first define a new key figure that stores the conversion ratios in 4.7 Key FigureDefinition .
To define the conversion key figures
1. Choose 4.7 Key Figure Definition.
2. In the Conversion Key Figurefield, enter X.

3. In the Conversion Abbreviationfield, enter 3 characters. This is used as the prefix for the generatedplanning level by all the key figures. For example, ABC.
The conversion rate is time phased, for example:
January 2013 February 2031
Revenue Euro 100 200
Conversion Rate 1.1 1.2
Revenue USD 110 240
Assign the Key Figures
The next step is to assign the related-key figures with the key figure with which they will be converted. Forexample, Price and Revenue must be assigned with the conversion key figure using the Convert Usingfield.
To assign the key figures
1. Choose 4.7 Key Figure Definition.
2. In the Convert Usingcolumn, choose the conversion key figure you created previously.
Generate the Model
You can now generate the currency-related model in the S&OP web client application.
To generate the currency-related model
1. On the Configurationtab, chooseActivation .
2. In Planning Areas, select the required planning area.
Note
Planning areas that contain conversion key figures and therefore can be generated, are indicated bya checkmark in the Convertiblecolumn.
3. Choose Generate. The currency-related model is generated.
If there are any issues during the generation process, they are displayed in the log.

The newly generated currency-related model is shown below.
Note
Yellow indicates the object was created during the generation process.
In this example, the key figures were modified as follows:
For stored key figures the base planning level was changed to include a Fromattribute (ConversionSource, for example, dollars) in the new planning level
For stored and calculated key figures a new planning level for the conversion calculations was created thatincludes From(Conversion Source) and To(Conversion Target, for example, euros) attributes
The planning level was changed to include the prefix of the conversion abbreviation, for example, ABC.
Note
If a calculation refers to more than two planning levels after the generation process, an error mayoccur during activation. To avoid this, split the calculations so that the post-generation model fitsthese requirements.
Note
You must mark all related attributes as Conversion Sources and Conversion Targets.
Activate the Model
The next step is to activate the currency-related model that you generated just like any other model.

To activate the cu rrency-related model
1. On the Configurationtab, chooseActivation .
2. ChooseActivate. The currency-related model is activated.
Import Data
Before you import data into SAP S&OP, make sure that you include the newly added attributes in the file.
In addition, you must upload the CONVFROMand EXCHANGERATEmaster data types.
Note
The CONVTOmaster data type is created automatically.
For example, if you named the conversion source in the 4.6 Planning Level Attri butestable CONVFROMID,then the csv file must include a column CONVFROMID as shown in the csv example file below.
"PRODUCTID", "LOCATIONID", "KEYFIGUREDATE", CONVFROMID, "ILPRICE"
"PROD-94", "LOC-10", "2012-09-01", "USD", "304"
"PROD-96", "LOC-36", "2012-09-01", "USD", "254"
"PROD-91", "LOC-20", "2012-09-01", "USD", "336"
"PROD-79", "LOC-20", "2012-09-01", "USD", "256"
"PROD-13", "LOC-36", "2012-09-01", "USD", "410"
Note
Make sure that you only upload data from a single currency to the same key figure.
For more information about importing data, see Data Integration.
View and Edit a Planning View
You can now view the key figures that you created in the SAP S&OP add-in for Microsoft Excel. In addition, youcan edit the currency; for example, change it from dollars to euros.
When a currency-related model is created, a new tab, namely, Conversionsappears in the Create Planning Viewdialog box in the SAP S&OP add-in for Microsoft Excel. The tab has a dropdown list of all the currenciesavailable.
You can change the data in your spreadsheet from one currency to another, namely, from dollars to euros.
