Sacrament of Confirmation Requirements 2017-2018 In general, preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process. However, our program is designed to help teens prepare at their own pace and within their passion and desire for the faith. The following are the minimum requirements for our Youth Ministry Program for Confirmation.

Participating in Parish Life All families with teens wishing to enter the preparation for Confirmation are required to be weekly Mass-

going and tithing at Santa Clara de Asis for at least one full year prior to beginning Confirmation

preparation. This Sacrament is fulfilled by the tangible requirements below, but begins with actively

participating in Parish life at our Parish.

Youth Nights: Attend 16 Youth Nights Total Youth Nights are offered throughout the year on Sunday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at

the church. The format of youth nights will rotate, and one night a year will be Safe

Environment training.

Retreats Teens are required to attend at least one youth ministry retreat, which is offered in the

Fall and the Confirmation Retreat that is offered shortly before the Confirmation Mass

date. There are no make-up retreats through other parishes allowed and teens must

attend the retreat in its entirety for it to satisfy the requirement.

Youth Ministry Retreat (Fall) – November 10-12, 2017

Confirmation Retreat (Spring of 2019)

Teen must have 16 Youth Nights and all other requirements finished prior to attending the Spring Confirmation Retreat.

Saint Project and Reflection for Teen and Sponsor Once a year, a youth night will be for the teen and sponsor and will include a saint art

project. This night will be offered once each year, so the teen and sponsor only come to this

once throughout the two years. This year this event will be on Sunday, December 17th.

Choosing a Sponsor – Turn in the Sponsor Form The sponsor form is available on the SCDA website. Teens must select sponsor as soon as

possible, but by December 2017 at the latest.

Teen/Sponsor Yearly Activities With your sponsor you must participate in at least (1) Social, (1) Service and (1) Spiritual

event each year. Teens and sponsors are required to fill out and turn in an activity form

detailing these activities each year.

Letter to the Bishop During the second year of Confirmation, teens are required to write a letter to the bishop

about why they are desiring to be Confirmed and to reflect on the gospel reading that will

be read at the Confirmation Mass. Details for this requirement will be distributed when they

become available.
