When Mission was Built (Founded)
• Santa Clara de asis was founded on January 12,1777.
• It was founded by Father Junipero Serra.
• Santa Clara de asis was the eighth mission to be founded.
Mission Site
• Located the southern end of San Francisco Bay in Santa Clara ,on site originally chosen by Jan Batista de Anza ,the Spanish pathfinder.
• The site was originally founded as la mission de Santa Clara.
Father Junipero Serra
• Father Juniper Serra • 1713,fr. Juniper Serra was
born at Petra on the island of Mallorca, Spain.
• He died 70 years old at San Carlos Borromeo.
• 1729, at the age of 16 he entered a catholic church.

Agriculture and Livestock• Mission Santa Clara harvested
approximately 118,000 bushels of grain .
• They produce between 1782 and 1832.
• There is 10,000 cattle, 9,500 sheep, 55 swine,730 horses, and 35 mules.
• The total of animals is 20,320.
Indians Joining this Mission
• The Indians were called the Ohlone Indians.
• The men hunted for deer, antelope, ducks, and geese.
• They also searched for berries, mushrooms, and grass seeds.
• Most important food staples was acorns, into flour which was used for porridge, biscuits, and soup.
Population
• The highest mission population was 1, 514 in 1795.
• July 1992 the population was 95, 209.
• In July 1990 the population was 93, 353.
Significant Events
• There was a fire, earthquake, and a flood so Santa Clara had to be rebuilt five times.
• 1779, Santa Clara flooded
• In 1812, an earthquake had happened.
• In 1926, Santa Clara burnt down and had to be rebuilt.
• The adobe lodge and wall were the only parts of Santa Clara that survived the fire.
Current Use of the Mission
• Today the current use of Santa Clara is that it is now a law school , Santa Clara University.
• There is still a church in Santa Clara.
• The front of the mission church shows a wooden cross of 1777 that was planted at it’s founding.

• I liked looking for facts about when Santa Clara flooded, burned down, and had an earthquake.
• I liked looking for pictures too.
