What Is MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievementthrough grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. Participants advance through School, Chapter and State Competitions until the final 228 students (Mathletes) are selected from fifty-seven states and territories to advance to the MATHCOUNTS National Competition held each May.

MATHCOUNTS In San Diego

For the last several years, the University of California San Diego School of Engineering has hosted the San Diego Chapter Competition. UCSD School of Engineering students volunteer their time to help the event as Competition proctors and graders. Peter Livingston the coordinator for the chapter competition. Peter Livingston is also a board member of the California Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE), which sponsors twenty-five local competitions and Southern and Northern California MATHCOUNTS State championships in March.

The budget for San Diego Chapter Competition includes awards, food for the Mathletes, facility charges, office supplies and equipment. All donations are spent on the local MATHCOUNTS event only.
