The challenge of the project was for us to create a station that acts as a bandage, heal the split between the 2 contrasting sides of the railroad. But also to make a new urban landmark, capable of generating the necessary emulation to revitalize the station’s neighborhood, and give a new breath the city
The city of Kenitra takes it’s name from a historic bridge it was build around. We wanted the train station to be a reminder of the city’s origin, while opening up to it’s future. The station is as much a gateway as a bridge, bringing people into to city and absorbing elements from it.
The building is open to the forest in the southern side of the railroad, through a
public plaza penetrated by vegetation. The northern side is more urban, with the public square extending into the station, along with the surrounding buildings which seem to transform, in the interior, into the wooden blocs containing the various programs.

The idea behind the project is based on the notion of complex networks, as a basis for the information society we live in. As our cities make the transition from the metropolis paradigm to the metapolis, how can the built environment reflect these deep changes?
After an in-depth site analysis, we proposed to move away from the zoning principle which has created a segregated tissue, to a more mixed configuration, creating a new architecture for the train station: fluid and continuous.
Using the full spectrum of the diagonal plane, we blur the lines between architecture and landscape, the building becomes a landscape in itself where the pedestrian can move in, under or on top of the surface.

• Removing the existing railroad station• creating a continuous surface• adding a road dedicated to the bus circulation.
• Access points to the area of intervention• existing intermodality points
• Creating a network of direct links • Creating a network of optimised links• the density of links is in proportion to the existant or desired
intensity of circulation
• Materialisation of the circulation scheme, to create a continuous surface
• Connecting the surface to the ground, to have a frontal access
• The slope is transformed into stairs/waiting area/public space, while serving as a structural support for the building
• The accessible roof which follows the surface’s inclination, is sectionned to provide light into the interior spaces
• The continuous surface becomes a connective landscape which transforms into architecture, structure, possibilities of life.

Aiming at a social mixity of users, the program is targeted to cater towards the 4 categories populating the site. By creating spaces capable of becoming attractive meeting/crossing points, the goal is to enrich the life of the area, neglected in terms of urban activity.

On the neighborhood’s scale, the connective surface is raised or lowered to create different type of spaces, allowing various human activities to take place.

RURAL TO URBANUrban design and collective housing project | 4th year project | 1rst semester | Studio: SERHANE Abdellah and HASSANI Mohammed
The main idea of the urban plan was to emphasize the presence of nature, introducing he aquatic, mineral and vegetal elements into the hear of the city, while giving the plan a radio-concentric shape, following the site’s topographic relief
The aquatic element Beginning with an observation spot on the closest point of the city to the river, this axis is sequenced through a succession of water fountains leading to a reflection pool. This area is mainly dedicated to financial and commercial activity.
The mineral elementTaking the form of a pedestrian street, the sequence is characterized by large open views toward the local landmarks: the mosque, and the towering office building in the city center. This axis also serves as an extension of Tamesna’s main avenue, liking it to the new development
The vegetal elementThe vegetal element is represented by a central park, which extends from the city center to the it’s eastern limit. But it also borders the area, penetrating gradually into the urban fabric, mimicking the transition from the rural environment to Tamesna city.

Exterior vertical circulation, acting as meeting point for the residents, and enhancing the social life of the neighborhood.
Social mixity, created by providing different types of appartment units, from 2 to 4 bedrooms flats, as well as duplexes. Preserved intimacy, by enveloping the building with wooden louvers, and movable shutters.

exhibition stand
A stand build by the Philippe LIVENEAU studio, to house an exhibition of our projects during the Saint-Etienne design bienale. The structure made in Alucobond panels and paper was designed and build in a 3 weeks intensive charette. I was assigned to work on the optimization of the structural modules, by creating small scale models. Then on the modeling of transportation process, and on-site assembly. I also worked, alongside with my class mates on assembling the pavilion.

Designed and build by a team of 6 people, this project was for us the first practical application of parametric modeling, and digital fabrication. After creating the Rhino/grasshopper script, we generated a number of iterations, that we tested in small scale models before choosing the most appropriate form, in terms of rigidity, ease of construction, and proportion.
The next step was to transfer the pieces, laid out in the software, to the CNC cutting machine, which then proceeded to cut the wood panels into 65 parts that we assembled with connecters, produced using the same process.
