“Brothers and sisters: Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith to the grace in which we stand and we boast in hope of the glory of God… ‘If you knew the gift of God.’” One of the most dangerous liabilities in our lives is found in the area of presumption. So many things are taken for granted. Don’t let that happen this Lent. We have been gifted

with faith allowing us to experience great peace. Through this gift we have a strong relationship with God and a loving relationship with others. God’s grace, His very life which flows and fills us, is a gift offered over and over through the sacraments. Ask for it. Besides being an unmerited gift of God, it is something offered, but must be accepted. It is hard to receive a gift if my hands are closed or formed into a fist. I begin this third week of Lent, opening my hands and heart to the gift of God’s grace that He is offering me today. Reach out for it. Like the Samaritan woman, I want to discover this great gift in my life. Perhaps as I shake someone’s hand this week, or reach for a doorknob, I will remember to reach out and ask for God’s amazing grace. “Hermanos: Justificados, entonces, por la fe, estamos en paz con Dios, por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Por él hemos alcanzado, mediante la fe, la gracia en la que estamos afianzados, y por él nos gloriamos en la esperanza de la gloria de Dios… ‘Si conocieras el don de Dios.’” Uno de los más grandes peligros en nuestras vidas es la arrogancia. Muchas cosas se toman por dadas. No permita que eso le pase esta Cuaresma. Se nos ha otorgado el don de la fe que nos permite experimentar gran paz. A través de este don témenos una fuerte relación con Dios y una relación amorosa con otros. La gracia de Dios, Su propia vida que fluye y nos llena, es un don ofrecido una y otra vez por medio de los sacramentos. Pídala. Además de ser un don de Dios no merecido, se nos ofrece y debemos aceptarlo. Es difícil recibir un regalo si mis manos están cerradas, o formando un puño. Comienzo esta tercera semana de Cuaresma abriendo mis manos y mi corazón al don de la gracia de Dios que El me ofrece hoy. Acéptela. Como la mujer samaritana, quiero descubrir este gran don en mi vida. Quizá al apretar la mano de alguien esta semana, o al abrir la puerta, recordaré extender mi mano y pedir la maravillosa gracia de Dios.

Una visita sul sito del Tempio nella Gerusalemme attuale dà un’idea della sacralità del luogo agli occhi del popolo ebreo. Ciò doveva essere ancora più sensibile quando il tempio era ancora intatto e vi si recavano, per le grandi feste, gli Ebrei della Palestina e del mondo intero. L’uso delle offerte al tempio dava la garanzia che la gente acquistasse solo quanto era permesso

dalla legge. L’incidente riferito nel Vangelo di oggi dà l’impressione che all’interno del tempio stesso si potevano acquistare le offerte e anche altre cose. Come il salmista, Cristo è divorato dallo “zelo per la casa di Dio”. Quando gli Ebrei chiedono a Gesù in nome di quale autorità abbia agito, egli fa allusione alla risurrezione. All’epoca ciò dovette sembrare quasi blasfemo. Si trova in seguito questo commento: “Molti credettero nel suo nome. Gesù però non si confidava con loro, perché conosceva tutti”. Noi dobbiamo sempre provare il bisogno di fare penitenza, di conoscerci come Dio ci conosce. Il messaggio che la Chiesa ha predicato fin dall’inizio è quello di Gesù Cristo crocifisso e risorto. Tutte le funzioni della Quaresima tendono alla celebrazione del mistero pasquale. Che visione straordinaria dell’umanità vi si trova! Dio ha mandato suo Figlio perché il mondo fosse riconciliato con lui, per farci rinascere ad una nuova vita in lui. Eppure, a volte, noi accogliamo tutto ciò con eccessiva disinvoltura. Proprio come per i mercati del tempio, a volte la religione ha per noi un valore che ha poco a vedere con la gloria di Dio o la santità alla quale siamo chiamati.

ST. VITO ~ MOST HOLY TRINITY 2018 SCHOLARSHIP

Two St. Vito-Most Holy Trinity scholarships are available to be awarded

TWO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS who will be enrolling in a full-time

undergraduate course of study in the Fall.

Scholarship applications are available at the parish rectory’s office. Please come to the rectory to

obtain an application which should be completed and returned to the office by March 31, 2018.

All requirements must be met to be considered

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

March 9th, 16th , 23rd

All are invited to come and pray the stations of the Cross will be prayed each Friday of Lent at

7:00PM in English and 8:00PM in Spanish.

It has long been a tradition of our faith that we follow the path of Christ during the Lenten Season. Let us make every effort to suffer, die and rise with

Christ during this penitential season of Lent.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS 2nd Confirmation Parent Meeting

Sunday, March 4, 2018 To be held after the 11am Mass in the school

gym. This is an obligatory meeting for all parents of confirmation candidates who are

preparing to receive the sacrament this May!

ANNUAL GOLDEN WEDDING JUBILEE

Couples celebration their 50th wedding anniversary anytime during 2018 are invited to attend the Annual Golden

Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St. Patrick on

VIA CRUCIS

El Vía Crucis se llevará acabo todos los Viernes de Cuaresma a

7:00pm en Ingles y a las 8:00pm en Español. Ha sido una tradición muy antigua de nuestra fe que sigamos los pasos de Cristo durante el tiempo de la Cuaresma. Hagamos un esfuerzo

para sufrir, morir y resucitar con Cristo durante el tiempo penitencial de cuaresma.
