Message from Reverend Dennis Gonzales

4

Dear Parishioners,

Greetings of peace. I pray that you and your family are all doing well.

I started my first official day as your parish administrator this past Wednesday, September 1

st. I am appreciative of Msgr. Tom, for his support and guidance during my transition. I wish

him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.

I have felt your warm welcome and support since that day. Saint Vincent's is a wonderful community, and I am thrilled to be here. I pray that our loving God draws us closer and inspires us to support and help bring each other closer to Him.

Parishioners always call me Fr. Dennis, which is my preference. Since Fr. Danis’ name is very similar to mine, we made a compromise that, to avoid confusion, he'll give up his endearing name and will be called Fr. Ridore from now on. I think it's a fitting title for him as a senior priest. I am blessed by Fr. Ridore's presence, as he will be a source of wisdom and support.

I will be around and will be available for you. I look forward to sharing with you our stories and our faith. In the meantime, let me briefly introduce myself.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I have two brothers and two sisters. My father died 4 years ago. My mother tried to live in the United States, but after a year, she realized that it was better for her to be back home, closer to her grandchildren.

I studied Nursing after high school, as I dreamed of immigrating to the United States since I was a kid. A nursing degree was a sure passport to be able to secure a visa during that time. A hospital in Washington DC sponsored me before I joined the seminary. Healthcare and healthcare ministry are always close to my heart. During my seminary formation, I completed an internship program in Clinical Pastoral Education at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where I ministered to terminally ill patients who participated in clinical trials.

Aside from my parish ministry, I also volunteered as a hospital chaplain. I lent support to the sick and their families and the healthcare staff who cared for them. I earned a Master of Divinity from St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Florida along with an MA in Bioethics from Loyola University Chicago.

Since I was ordained a priest by Bishop Barbarito on May 4th, 2013, I was assigned to two parishes—St.

Helen's in Vero Beach and St. Ann's in West Palm Beach. Both have schools, and I enjoyed working with our students, teachers, and parents.

I will be bringing with me my love for ministry here in our parish. Please keep me in your prayers as I transition to my new role. Be assured of my prayers to you and your family.

• Officers meeting on Tuesday, September 7th

at 7pm. • Membership meeting on Wednesday, September 16

th at 7pm, but please arrive by 6:30pm,

so that we can start on time.

Thanks so much to our members and parishioners who responded so generously to our school supplies collection. We are very fortunate to receive such thoughtful support and the school appreciates having extra supplies for those who may need them.

We encourage all of our members to attend the Blue Mass to thank our Police, Firefighters, Paramedics and all of our First Responders in person on Friday, September 10

th at 7pm. We also

need help with decorations and the dessert reception afterwards. Please let Gail know if you can help.

Holy Water is back at both the east and west church doors. To help offset the cost of the bottles, the suggested donation is $1.00 per bottle, and it is set up for self-service. Make it a habit to say this prayer when blessing yourself with Holy Water: “By this Holy Water and by Thy Precious Blood, wash away my sins, O Lord”.

Answer a prayer and remember the poor, especially during this pandemic. Please donate money to the poor boxes at the church doors. Unfortunately, we are unable to process food donations at this time and can only accept money and, of course, your prayers.

We welcome you to become part of a great group of women who are active in community services and our church. We are caring and sharing in all that we do, and in the process, we form great friendships. If you are interested in becoming a Columbiette, or would like more information, please contact Gail Colvin at (516) 314-4440.

St. Vincent Ferrer Care Ministry Thank you for your generosity and please continue to pray for us in our mission to help others.

Today’s Gospel reading (James 2:1-5) speaks about treating all, regardless if rich or poor,

alike. Verse 5 says, “Harken my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world,

rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them”.

Our Care Ministry has respect and love for those less fortunate. Many individuals we assist have been hurt or

maybe abused as children. These issues have an affect in adulthood if they do not get help. One time or

another they loved and they were loved by someone. They had hope, they believed, then hope went out the

door due to illness, substance abuse, job loss, loss of family members, and other unfortunate circumstances.

Some did not get to complete their education, therefore, job selections are few. They may not know how to fill

out forms for assistance. They cannot assimilate things we all take for granted everyday.

The Care Ministers assist those who are looking for jobs and give them resources. We talk to them to give

them hope by offering vocational training, suggest they get their GED to help them get further in trying to put

their life together, offer to help fill out forms, and lastly give them hope for tomorrow and after.

The mission of the Care Ministry is to be a channel of God’s love by providing solutions to area citizens for the

many issues they have. It could be the need for a utility payment to avoid disconnection, rent help in the event

of an eviction notice, grocery store cards to purchase food, and help with other unforeseen events affecting

them.

If interested in joining our ministry or attending one of our meetings, please call 561-272-7580 and leave a

message for Jackie, expressing your interest and we will return your call.

SVFCM is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit Care Ministry. Your tax-deductible donations are recorded in the parish end of the

year report which is available upon request.

Our St. Vincent Ferrer Care Ministry is here to help the less fortunate of our community. There is no need to give money to panhandlers. If you are approached by anyone on the grounds of the church, kindly give them our phone number. We are here to help them.

Please contact the parish office to update

address change, email change, or

Do you feel called to serve our Lord and the Parish?

We are always in need for volunteers to launder and press the Altar Linens that are used each week during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. These are cleaned on a weekly basis. Special attention to reverence when handling the purificators, corporals and hand towels is required and special instructions will be given. This ministry is time-flexible and performed at home. Currently, the time commitment of our volunteers is once every three months. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact the parish office at (561)276-6892. This is a great way for parents to earn school service hours.

PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM STORMS

God, our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before You as your children, in grateful thanksgiving for Your loving care and protection. We ask You, keep us safe from all storms which may threaten us in the coming season. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the

power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm and safety. Father, we thank You in advance, for You are our only refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy

Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
