Moses recounts great events of salvation history which find their fulfilment in Jesus Christ. We confess him to the Lord, for God raised him from the dead. He is ever faithful, resisting temptation to forsake his Father’s mission, trusting in

God’s love. ALMSGIVING, PRAYER, FASTING, AND TEMPTATION As we begin our season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, the reading from Deuteronomy reminds us of our duty of almsgiving, that we “set [our offerings] before the Lord, [our] God, [and] shall bow down in [God’s] presence” (Deuteronomy 26:10). The reading from Romans refers us to our prayer, reminding us that “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart . . . For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:8, 13). These are comforting words, and encourage us to ask God for what we need and to aid us in our prayer. Finally, the Gospel of Luke shows us a fasting Jesus, who was tempted as we are, and who knows what it means to be human. Someone once said that temptation arises when you’re tired and weary, and the devil comes along and makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. Jesus shows us that, with his help, we too can overcome our temptations, reasonable as they may sound. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — God brought us into this land flowing with milk and honey (Deuteronomy 26:4-10). Psalm — Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble (Psalm 91). Second Reading — The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (Romans 10:8-13). Gospel — Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus was led into the desert for forty days (Luke 4:1-13). Thank you

Thank you for your contribution to last weekend’s collection for Easter Mass Remembrance The person or persons named will be remembered in the Masses.

++++++++++++

Thank you

Thank you for your Ash Wednesday Collection.

The collection provides aid to train seminarians and lay leaders, support social service programs, youth ministry, pastoral and catechetical centers, schools, church construction and renovation, and evangelization through Catholic media.

Second Collections

This weekend, our parish will take up the Black and Indian Mission Collection

mandated by the Plenary Council III in 1884. The 125year-old National Collection for Black and Indian people continues as the embodiment of the Church’s concern for evangelizing the Black and Indian peoples of the United States. The funds are distributed as grants to dioceses throughout the United States, supporting and strengthening evangelization programs which otherwise would cease. The Collection was formerly known as The Black and Indian Home Mission Collection.

Easter Flower Offering

This weekend, our parish will also take up the

Easter Flower offering. Please return your envelope to the church with the name of the person or persons to be remembered or honored.

...Continued from last week

Lent In Lent, the baptized are called to renew their baptismal commitment as others prepare to be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a period of learning and discernment for individuals who have declared their desire to become Catholics.

The key to fruitful observance of these practices is to recognize their link to baptismal renewal. We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to true conversion of our hearts and minds as followers of Christ. We recall those waters in which we were baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ. Catholics are also encouraged to make going to confession a significant part of their spiritual lives during Lent. Catholics who have not been to confession in a while should "rediscover" this sacrament.

Legacy of Faith

continuing your lifelong stewardship by leaving a bequest to
