Our parish Stewardship Commitment continues with the follow-up. Members of the Finance Council, Parish Pastoral Council, and Stewardship Committee are contacting every parish member that received a mailing and commitment form and who did not return it to date. These leadership groups are following up with approximately 100 registered parish members/families who have not responded.
As of November 7th, we had 157 commitments returned for a total of $282,031 committed. We build our budget based on $370,000 in financial stewardship commitments, so we are approximately $88,000 short of what we need committed for the 2017-2018 Operating Budget. We need an average of $7,000 per week in collections to operate the parish. So you can see how important it is that all our parishioners respond with a commitment for the support of the parish and its ministries.
Please note that our collection amounts vary from week to week. You may have noted that the collections are typically down (lower) in the summer and early fall months and then pick up in the fall through Easter.
One of the challenges the Finance Council faces each year is estimating as close and as realistic as possible what the total collection amount for the year will be. We do this estimation based on the stewardship commitments, the prior year giving, and the amount of donations from visitors based on prior years. Although the 2015-2016 fiscal year ended in a positive, the collections were overestimated by $40,000. The
difference in income was made up by Bequests and Memorials and the Maintenance Reserve Fund Challenge Donor.
We will begin the 2017-2018 Operating Budget Process in January. What keeps the parish budget balanced is primarily the income from the weekly collection. Of course, some choose to give monthly, quarterly, and yearly, but, again, we need that $7,000 per week to end the fiscal year in a positive.
We are called to the stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. We have been given the standard to strive for the Biblical tithe–5% to the parish and 5% to other charities. Each year we are asked to take a step toward that Biblical tithe. If you did not take that step and wish to change your commitment to reflect an increase in your percentage, please contact Lisa Vallone, our Parish Bookkeeper, in the Parish Office. Increasing your tithe by even 1/2% to 1% more can make a difference. How close are you to the 5% tithe for the support of the parish and its ministries?
Thanks to all who have returned their Parish Stewardship Commitment. Let us continue to be faithful stewards of all that God has given us.
Congratulations to Maddy Stannis and Vivian Walsh who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday, November 12th. When you see them, please offer them your support and prayers as they now prepare for First Holy Communion.
May God abundantly bless you!

Sharing Weekend is This Weekend - November 12th/13th
The recipient of our November Sharing collection is The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC). The IVC provides men and women, most age 50 and over, the opportunity to serve the needs of people who are materially poor, to work for a more just society, and to grow deeper in Christian faith by reflecting and praying in the Ignatian tradition.
Our volunteers are placed in organizations throughout the city that serve the poor directly and indirectly. They pledge one to two days of service per week for a 10-month term and most stay well beyond that with an option to continue each year. A unique element of IVC is its spiritual reflection component which helps our volunteers deepen their faith and respond more fully to the call of the Gospel.
IVC is a Jesuit ministry that is well established in 23 cities across the country with over 500 volunteers in over 350 service sites. IVC Milwaukee is the newest region; beginning its first year of service in the Fall of 2016. It is our mission and hope to inspire older adults to put their experience, skills and faith at the service of our community’s most pressing needs.
For a deeper look at IVC please visit the national website at www.ivcusa.org and our local website at www.ivcmilwaukee.com. If you would like to explore the possibility of becoming an IVC volunteer, please contact Monica Meagher at [email protected]. Please be generous in giving to this is a newly formed organization for Milwaukee.
Sex & Tech in the Digital Age, with Father Gregory Greiten
With all of the great technological advances in the last decades, people are facing challenges that no other generation has faced. Studies show that our young people between the ages of 8-18 spend 11.5 hours each day using various devices, and that the average age of first exposure to pornography is 9. The constant and rapid changes in digital technology can create challenges for some who go beyond using technology to pursue sexual pleasure and enter into the unending and unsatisfying cycle of addiction.
Join us for this special session with Father Greg Greiten, pastor of St. Bernadette Parish, who has advanced training in helping others with pornography addiction and sexual addiction. This session will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 7:00PM to 8:30PM at St. John the Evangelist Parish (8500 W Coldspring Rd, Greenfield) and will explore the startling statistics of what is happening in the digital world, the kinds of problems that can develop, as well as other information for those who might be uninformed, overwhelmed, or ill-equipped to protect themselves and their loved ones from the ever-evolving dangers in the digital age.
4th Annual Christmas Cookie Sale

You can also call Mary at (414) 425- 2028 and sign up by phone. Your donations have made this Cookie Sale a great success in the past. We can’t do this without you.
Help Needed: CLOW Catechists
Each Sunday during 9:00AM mass children ages 3 and older are given the opportunity to participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW). For approximately 20 minutes, St. Therese’s youngest members venture into the lobby with a catechist where they hear the Gospel and engage in a rich discussion with meaningful activity.
Facilitating CLOW is a rewarding experience that enriches the lives of St. Therese’s children. This ministry doesn’t require a teaching degree, just a love of the Lord and children. Please prayerfully consider becoming a CLOW catechist. Training and resources are provided. Contact Christine Reinders by email [email protected] or by phone via Heather in the Parish Office.

Church Bell Repair / Donation Opportunity The two church bells in the tower were cast in 1926. To ensure they are with us for another 90 years, the bells need some attention. Bell repair company, Lee Mfg. Co LLC, will be contracted to repair the bells and frame which includes: new clapper pads, clapper springs, and sealed self-aligning bearings. The bells will then be reassembled and stop blocks will be installed to prevent the bells from tipping or flipping over. The steel frame that is currently installed can damage the bells and frame work, so for damage prevention in the future, it will be removed. The bells will then be in good working order and we will resume our tradition of ringing them prior to services. The cost of this project is $3,300.00. If you would like to make a donation to help offset the cost of this project, please contact the Parish Office.
Dear Members of St. Therese Parish, The organ fund has been revived and is going strong! Recent developments in the status of the organ have determined that a new instrument be purchased by the end of the fiscal year to ensure the future of quality music for the congregation. You may have noticed an unhealthy buzz coming from the organ speaker in the altar area; the result of age and the fact that parts can no longer be replaced. The organ needs to be turned on and off during mass to avoid this situation. Additionally, sometimes “stops” turn on by themselves, resulting in the need to turn the organ off to reset it.
An ad hoc committee has been formed, manufacturers have been interviewed and instruments will be auditioned beginning at the Thanksgiving holiday. The organ we are looking at is completely made in the USA by the Allen Organ Company (Allentown, PA.) It is a family owned business. well known in the industry. Support for the instrument from the company is abundant, and the representative is just up the road in Butler. The price looks to be $65,000 - $70,000.
The new organ will be used for mass, weddings, funerals, special services, concerts and lessons. You will definitely benefit from having a quality instrument that will last for the next 75 or more years. We have over one third of the funding already, and we look forward to more contributions to ensure quality liturgical events at St. Therese.
Thanksgiving Eve Ecumenical Prayer Service
Mark your calendars now and plan to attend the annual ecumenical Thanksgiving eve prayer service on Wednesday, November 23rd at 7:00PM. St. Therese Parish is pleased to host this year’s service with our neighboring
churches: Martin Luther Church and Milwaukee Mennonite Church. What a great way to bring in the holiday season, joining in prayer and song, giving thanks to God for the many blessings we receive. The combined choirs will enrich our service and fill our church with joyful music. Hospitality will follow immediately after the service. Pies are requested for the hospitality. If you are willing to bake and donate a pie, please call Mary Rose Sanger at (414) 477-8618. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Wall of Remembrance The Wall of Remembrance is our way at St. Therese of honoring the deceased during the month of November. Place a photograph of a loved one that that has passed away on the Wall of Remembrance located to the right of the altar and sign
the Book of the Dead located to the left of the wall. After November 30th, the photos will be available for pick-up from the box labeled “Wall of Remembrance” located in the Sacristy.
