A REFLECTION FROM FATHER GERARDO Meditating the Word of God My brothers and sisters, during today's readings, Jesus clear-ly told us that in order to inherit the Kingdom of God, we must receive the Holy Eucharist. Those who reject the life giving Bread from Heaven are spiritually dead and they will lose the final eternal glory. It is sad that so many are blind to this truth. How often do we hear someone say, “I am saved because I have faith in Jesus”. How often do we hear others say, “I am saved because I was baptized”. Such statements are based on the misunderstood the words of Jesus. My brothers and sisters, in the Bible, we learn that the word water signifies the Sacrament of Baptism. We also learn that being born of the Spirit signifies to be sanctified in Christ. And sanctification means to persevere in the living faith. When we were baptized with water, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we received the “righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ”. To maintain our righteousness in Christ after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism, we need the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Through Moses, God made a Covenant. If His chosen peo-ple remained faithful to Him and obeyed His commandments, He would bless them abundantly. God promised that His New Covenant would generously include many free gifts for the peo-ple that He loved. Two of those gifts would include God putting a new heart and a new spirit within the believers. To those who would reject God's spiritual gifts, He said, “But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abomina-tions, I will bring their deeds upon their own heads, says the Lord God.” God takes no pleasure in seeing His creations die. He calls each and every one of them to come to Him to receive a new heart and a new spirit. How do we maintain our ongoing righteousness? It is through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. At the Last Sup-per, after taking the bread and breaking it, Jesus said, “Take, eat, this is My Body.” (Mt. 26:26) Jesus clearly said that the conse-crated Bread becomes His physical Body, therefore, He dwell-ing with us and within us in this world. Afterwards, Jesus said, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mt. 26:27-8) When Jesus spoke of His Blood, He was telling us that through His death, the spilling of His Sacred Blood, a New Cov-enant was beginning. The sins previously committed would be forgiven so we would be made righteous in the eyes of God. To be saved and to inherit the Kingdom of God, we need to believe in the Resurrected Jesus and the Sacraments. We also need to live our faith through Christian acts of love and charity in the likeness of Jesus Christ.

REFLEXIÓN DEL PADRE GERARDO Meditando la Palabra de Dios Mis hermanos y hermanas, durante las lecturas de hoy, Jesús nos dijo claramente que para heredar el Reino de Dios, debemos recibir la Sagrada Eucaristía. Aquellos que rechazan la vida que da el Pan del Cielo están espiritualmente muertos y perderán la gloria eterna al final. Es triste que tantos sean ciegos a esta ver-dad. ¿Con frecuencia escuchamos a alguien decir: “Soy salvo porque tengo fe en Jesús”. ¿Con qué frecuencia escuchamos a otros decir: “Soy salvo porque fui bautizado.” Tales declaracio-nes se basan en la incomprensión de las palabras de Jesús. Her-manos y hermanas, cuando estudiamos la Biblia, aprendemos que la palabra agua significa el Sacramento del Bautismo. Tam-bién aprendemos que nacer del Espíritu significa ser santificado en Cristo. A MESSAGE FROM DEACON RICHARD Recently we concluded the Easter season and celebration of our liturgical year when we remember and live in a particular way the paschal mystery of Jesus life, death and resurrection. Next Sunday we will return to the green vestments and cloths of ordinary time, a time of living and growing in our faith. In the first reading we are reminded that God gave the Israelites food for their journey through the desert to the promised land. In his goodness God also provided daily bread for us in the Eucharistic feast, this bread sent from heaven is Jesus flesh for the life of the world and we are now nourished at the table of the Lord, we are strengthen to become bread that is broken and shared in wine that is Poured out for others, this living bread sent down from heaven is meant for the life of the world as those who were nourished at the table of the lord we must not hide this treasure away but instead bring the Eucharistic peo-ple, Christ has called us to be take it out into the world to bless, heal, restore, and revive.

SAINT ROMUALD

“God so loved the world,” declares John 3:16. “Do not love the world,” warns 1 John 2:15. The “world” to love: this planet, entrusted to our stewardship, and its people, God’s children all. The “world” to flee: “sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life” (1 John 2:16). Born in nobility, Romuald’s conversion followed the shock of witnessing his father murder an enemy. Renouncing his priv-ileged world, Romuald sought God’s world in monastic life. Its wind-ing turns and several dead ends make Romuald’s journey resonate with all who find life more maze than superhighway. Both the her-mit’s solitary struggle and community life’s unique challenges shaped Romuald’s legacy: his vast Camaldolese Benedictine family of monks, nuns, and lay associates who, these thousand years later, from the mountain solitude of Camaldoli, Italy to an urban monastery in Berkeley, California—in Asia, Africa, South America, Europe—integrate Romuald’s experience into their witness of solitary prayer, communal charity and worship, and promotion of contemplative spir-ituality in this world that can so easily distract us from the God who loves it still.

MENSAJE DEL DIACONO RICHARD Recientemente hemos concluido el tiempo pascual y la celebra-ción de nuestro año litúrgico, cuando recordamos y vivimos de manera particular el misterio pascual de la vida, muerte y resu-rrección de Jesús. SAN ROMUALDO Romualdo fue el padre fundador de los monjes camaldulenses, imponiendo en ellos reglas más severas que las que san Benedicto había impuesto en su monasterio.
