A day in the life of a SCRIP card user: by Lisa Verslues. “Leave for work, go to Eagle Stop to get gas, use Cenex SCRIP card. Go to Panera for lunch, use Panera SCRIP card. Stop at Wal-Mart on the way home, use Wal-Mart SCRIP card. Stop at Joe’s Market to pick up what I forgot at Wal-Mart, use Joe’s SCRIP card. End my day by buying Lily a new app on the iPad using my iTunes SCRIP card.” Once you get started using the SCRIP cards, it becomes second nature!

Age 70 ½ or older with an RMD from an IRA? Did you know that federal law allows tax free charitable distributions from your IRA? Charitable taxpayers who are age 70½ or older can direct “qualified charitable distributions” from their fund administrator directly to the charities of their choice, including one’s parish, school, or the parish capital campaign. This distribution may result in tax savings even if you are unable to itemize your deductions. For more information about how you can benefit from an IRA charitable distribu-tion, please contact your IRA administrator or tax preparer.

SCRIP is an amazing program! I'm only spending money I was planning to spend anyway. When I purchase SCRIP cards, I get the full amount to spend that I pay for. In addition to that, I make money for the school and money for my sustaining fee. It is a win-win situation! I keep SCRIP on hand for the places I know I always go, such as Walmart & Joe's Market. I know I'm never going to waste it! You can also use it to pay off your Kohl's credit card bill. I just wait till the bill comes in the mail, order my SCRIP and then stop by Kohl's and pay the bill with my SCRIP, another win-win!! I also use it for birthday presents, thank you's etc. It's so easy to send it in on a Monday, have your SCRIP in hand by Tuesday or Wednesday and be able to put it in a card for a birthday party that weekend. The best part is I don't have to drive to JC, go to the store, wait in line, and drive back home. It is a simple way to make money for the school and your sustaining fee when you’re going to spend the money anyway. I'm a huge believer in the SCRIP program. The SCRIP program has been able to do great things with the money we have raised through the program! Help support St. Joe by buying SCRIP cards!! ~ Rachel Lehmen

What’s Happening at St. Joseph School?

First, I would like to apologize to Danielle Plassmeyer, Emma Rowles and Monica Corey for not having their names on the list for school staff. Danielle is our After School Care director; Emma and Monica are her helpers. They are doing a great job of taking care of the kiddos after school! Open House is Monday, August 13, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come! First day of school is August 15 (day before Fatima begins). This is a no bus day. Please be mindful of traffic and students when traveling down Main Street. Student Council officers are planning the all school Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Please join us if you can as we start our new year off with Mass. Adopt a staff member: I would like to start something new this year. I got this idea from a colleague of mine and thought it would be a great addition for our school/parish community. We have 32 staff members here at St. Joseph, part-time to full-time. If you would like to adopt a staff member, please contact me via email or phone and leave a message. I will put each staff member’s name in a hat and will pull one out when assigning you a staff member to adopt. Requirements of adopting a staff member:

1. Pray for them. Pray for help, guidance, and peace as they perform their jobs. Pray for their families, health, safety, etc. 2. Send encouraging notes, letters, small pick me ups, supplies for classroom, etc. It does not need to

cost much, if anything.

Please contact me (Tammy Ogden) at [email protected] (preferred) and put ‘adopt a staff member’ in the memo line, or call school and leave a message for me at 455-2339. God Bless, Tammy Ogden, Principal

August 8, 2018 Church Renovation Town Hall Meeting: FAQ’s

1. Question: What is the current steeple made of and what will it be replaced with? Will the

pattern of the steeple stay the same? Answer: The current steeple is turn coated steel and will be removed for the new material to be replaced. The new steeple will be copper coated steel for durability. It will patina over time to a brownish tone. It is a “living color” and will continue to patina over time. 2.
