The Word of the Lord
First Reading: Isaiah 66:18-21 Isaiah portrays a time when people from many nations will gather in Jerusalem and proclaim God's glory. God's messengers will teach many nations about God. Just as the Israelites bring offerings, these messengers will bring people from all nations to worship.
Second Reading: Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13 The Hebrews are told that God disciplines those he loves. When a parent disciplines a child, the child usually learns what is expected of him. The Hebrews are encouraged to face life's trials as a form of discipline, and attempt to learn something from them.
Gospel: Luke 13:22-30 Jesus warns that the door to God's kingdom will be locked for those who ignored his wishes. Many people will come from all nations and take their place in God's kingdom. Others will not be recognized by God, and he will reject them.

Calling all singers!
As summer vacations turn back to the academic year, so too will our choirs return to support and enhance the music for our parish Masses. New members are always welcome to our choirs, especially as we begin a new year
together with new practice days & times!
Our Parish Choir is open to anyone 16 years and beyond. They rehearse on Thursday evenings after the 7 p.m.
Mass, offering music on a floating weekend schedule, most importantly providing music at Christmas, our Festival of Carols, the Easter Triduum, and special liturgies and solemnities. Cantors are also needed to lead song at Mass!
Our Youth Choir is open to all parishioners from K through Jr. High. There are three options for rehearsal:
Tuesdays in the Church: after St. John School 2:30 - 3:05 and after CCD 5:00 - 5:35;
Wednesdays in the Teachers' Lounge: before CCD 6:20 - 6:55.
If unable to make a rehearsal, we review hymns at 10:15 Sunday before 10:30 Mass.
For more information email "Choir" in the subject to [email protected] with your contact info.

Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. Why has God made the door narrow? Or is the door only narrow, because we have made it so? God did not make the door to His kingdom narrow. We make it narrow. Some of the things that will make the door narrow are worry, anxiety, fears, possessions, holding grudges, resentments, negativity or by being swept away in the busyness of day to day living.
Jesus calls us to conversion. The call is urgent. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, “Lord, open the door for us.” Jesus Christ is the master, who has risen indeed! The locked door suggests the final judgment. St. Paul tells us that one day we all will stand before Christ and give an account. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil. (2Cor5:10)
By the Holy Spirit, we are led to conversion. Conversion is a lifelong journey. How do we respond to God’s grace each day?...are we cooperating with God’s grace or rejecting it?...especially in the graces received in the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.
God treats you as sons…At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. This discipline is accepting the need for conversion and making it happen. Mary leads us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ. St. Maximillian Kolbe said that Mary rushes to our aid, even when we have not asked. The theologian Hans Ur von Balthasar, wrote: “A queen enjoys full power, even with regard to the king. Mary’s fullness of power is expressed in her intercession for us and her mediation of graces, so that we receive all personal graces from God.” Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us! God bless us all always! Deacon Mike

Who participates in the RCIA process? Adults, teens and older children, who are: 1. nonCatholics, Baptized or not Baptized OR 2. Catholics who have not received First Communion and Confirmation OR 3. Catholics who have not received Confirmation
Why is RCIA important? When we receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation we are fully initiated as Roman Catholics – we have the divine life of the
Holy Trinity enabling us to be Jesus Christ in the world we live, to our family, neighbors, fellow workers and parishioners.
How to I enroll in the RCIA process? Contact Deacon Mike in the Religious Education Office: 732-388-1253 or [email protected].
