CHURCH RENOVATION WORK

His Excellency, Bishop Arthur Serratelli will bless our newly renovated church and celebrate the

4:30 pm Mass on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1.

After three months in Hayes Hall we will now return to the church proper for the celebration of the sacred mysteries. Following the lit-urgy an reception will take place in Hayes Hall to which all are in-vited to attend. “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts!” - Psalm 84:1

Our renovation fund now totals $109,230.00. May the Lord grant His blessing to those who have generously supported this project.

Thank you and God Bless you! Fr. Zig

NEXT YEAR: SICILY & THE AMALFI COAST –

Father Zig will be leading a trip next spring to Sicily and the beautiful Amalfi Coast, April 20 to May 3, 2017. Enjoy breathtaking scenery, historic cities, centuries-old hilltop villages and wonderful cuisine. An information meeting for all interested travelers will take place on Tuesday, September 20th at 6:00 p.m. in Hayes Hall.

Have you ever wondered how the early church answered the many chal-lenges which they faced as they

spread the message of God’s Kingdom on Earth? The Acts of the Apostles provides a historic frame work for understanding the workings of the church which is enlivened by the Holy Spirit and continues to preach, teach, and heal as commissioned by Jesus. On Mon-day, September 19 , at 7:30PM in the Parish center, a bible study will begin studying the Acts of the Apostles using the program from Ascension Press with Jeff Cavins as the presenter. Although the entire study is 20 weeks long, we plan to meet for 8 weeks and then break for the holidays and then resume early next year. Although a faithful “remnant” has enjoyed the Gospel of Matthew, the Bible Timeline, Catholicism, and other topics, all are welcomed to explore this New Testament book. If you are interested, please contact [email protected] by Sept. 6th. The fee for the study guide is $ 30.00, payable to St. Cecilia and can be dropped off at the Parish Center.

WANTED: Child Caretakers are needed in the Parish Office Playroom for a few preschoolers while their parents attend RCIA classes.

Deacon Paul is looking for a team of volun-

teer women/teens, who can take turns watching the children, so that each vol-

unteer will only need to work 1 Sunday a month. He is looking for 4-5 volunteers.

RCIA classes are held on Sundays,

October 2 to late April from 9-10:30 AM. Please call Robyn Hornstein 862-437-1135.

Bishop’s Annual Appeal Be Rich in Good Works

Many parishioners have received, or will soon receive, a letter from Bishop Serratelli requesting support for the 2016 Bishop’s Annual Ap-peal. This year, the theme of the Ap-peal is Be Rich in Good Works. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports four very worthy causes: our Catho-lic Charities agencies; Nazareth Vil-lage, our diocesan priests’ retirement residence; our inner-city elementary schools and seminarian education. Last year’s Appeal raised a record amount which meant that even more could be done for the people in our Diocese. You can help make this year’s Appeal an even greater success by making a generous pledge today.

Whatever you can do to help will be a great blessing!

My Dear Parishioners, In our celebration of the Lord’s Day we come to the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The theme of reconcilia-tion and mercy are presented to us in the Scriptural texts for this Sunday. The Gospel Acclamation which is sung for today’s liturgy is: “God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ and entrusting to us the mes-sage of reconciliation.” This passage is taken from the Second Letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corin-

thians, chapter 5, verse 19 in which he reminds us of our duty as ambassadors for peace. This weekend we and the entire world recall the tragic events which occurred on September 11, 2001. On this day the face of evil had shown itself and destroyed the sense of security which not only Americans but all peoples of the world had felt. Life has not been the same with the rise of global terrorism. The death of thousands of innocent people that day and the days which have followed is cause for great sadness. We join in prayer this weekend with all people of good will that the evil which rests in the hearts of fanatics will be replaced by the goodness which moves one to cry out with the Psalmist, “A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me.” (Psalm 51:12) We promote peace through dialogue. Our conversations with one another help to bring about reconciliation where divisions have occurred within families and communities. Being engaged as ministers of reconciliation is what the Lord Jesus is asking of His followers. This ministry is not only difficult at times but it is absolutely crucial for our survival. Most times we would rather in-flict punishment upon our enemies rather than show them mercy. But mercy is the divine action which we are called to gener-ously bestow in imitation of the God who has saved us in Christ Jesus, His Only Begotten Son. Dialogue and healthy conversation is that which helps to build up a community. The Parish Council serves as that forum which consults with the pastor regarding matters which pertain to the wellbeing of the parish community. I have decided to form a par-ish council after many years of dormancy. This group will meet with me in the fall and the spring of the year and will be com-posed of the following: Father Marcin, Father Mateusz, Deacon Paul, Susan Brennan (Trustee), James Gallagher (Trustee), Agnes Struble, and John Sullivan. I will be looking forward to discussing church matters with them and seeking their advice in the pastoral matters which will be presented before them. Our first meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd at 10 a.m. in the parish office. I looked forward to their input as we plan for the upcoming months so that our parish may continue to be a vi-brant community of faith. Today we begin the BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL. Jim Gallagher has graciously agreed to serve as this year’s parish lay spokesman for the appeal. Jim attended a meeting recently with Bishop Serratelli to hear about the tremendous help the appeal brings to countless people, young and old, whose suffering is eased thanks to our faith and generosity. The agencies of our Catholic Charities Office are the primary beneficiary of the appeal but not the only. The appeal assists seminarians, our retired priests, Catholic schools and others. YOUR PARTICIPATION IS CRUCIAL. It’s not the amount that you contribute that is im-portant but rather than you participate in the appeal. There is great success when everyone participates! Your participation in this annual appeal will come with blessings, I am sure! I don’t doubt that you will be able to say with the Apostle Paul,

“I am grateful to Him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus, our Lord!” (1 Timothy 1:12)

May God bless us in our ministries as we serve Him and one another! Father Zig

580-St. Cecilia

Born at Montepulciano, Italy, on October 4, 1542, Saint Robert was the third of ten children. His mother, Cinzia Cervini, a niece of Pope Marcellus II, was dedicated to almsgiving, prayer, meditation, fasting and mortification of the body. Robert entered the newly formed Society of Jesus in 1560 and after his ordination went on to teach at Louvain (1570-1576) where he became famous for his Latin sermons. In 1576, the Saint was appointed to the chair of controversial theology at the Roman College, becoming rector in 1592; he went on to become Provincial of Naples in 1594 and Cardi-nal in 1598. This outstanding scholar and devoted servant of God defended the Apostolic See against the anti clericals of Venice and against the political tenets of James I of England. He composed an exhaustive apologetic work against the prevailing heresies of his day. In the field of church-state relations, he took a position based on principles now regarded as fundamentally democratic-authority originates with God, but is vested in people, who entrust it to fit rulers. This Saint was the spiritual father of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, helped St. Francis de Sales obtain formal approval of the Visitation Order, and in his prudence opposed severe action in the case of Galileo. He has left many important writings, including works of devotion and instruction, as well as controversy. He died in 1621. Prayer: God, in order to vindicate Your Faith You endowed St. Robert, Your Bishop, with wondrous erudition and virtues. Through his intercession, grant that Your people may ever rejoice in the integrity of his Faith. Amen Taken from, Lives of the Saints, Catholic Booking Publishing Company, 1999 New Jersey
