THE PASTOR’S CORNER—FR. JUSTIN

What are you doing this Advent?

Advent means arrival. We are preparing for the arrival of the baby Jesus at Christmas. No doubt, there are other arrivals that we prepare for during the holidays. People coming into town, perhaps we are arriving at the door-steps of others, there are gifts to be purchased, foods to prepare, decorations to hang, etc. What kind of prepara-tion are you doing to get your heart ready to receive Jesus? What are you getting Him for His birthday? Isn’t it odd that that it might be a common experience that the one we think of the least is the one whose birthday is the reason for everything else? Here are some things you might get in the habit of doing this new liturgical year that fittingly begins with Ad-vent and the preparing to receive Christ into our hearts and homes. We are distributing two Advent aids. You can choose either or both, especially if you plan to use them. The first is a series of meditations based on St. Therese of Lisieux. St. Therese is one of the most popular modern saints. This little book has daily reflections that come from her simple, but profound insights. The other offers reflec-tions on the Gospels of the day during the season of Advent and space to write down your own thoughts as a kind of journal. The meditations are written by Bishop Robert Barron, a leading evangelist / apologist today. There are also the opportunities such as adult faith formation which meets on Wednesdays in the rectory at 6pm. Make sure you check the bulletin for specific schedules. There is our city-wide adult faith program called Connect. Connects meets 7-8:30pm at the GREC (Notre Dame school building). You can go onto formed.org. We pay for it; it is free for you. It is like Catholic Netflix. Download iPieta, Laudate, iMissal on your phone. Here is a list of great Catholic podcasts: The Crunch, Fountains of Carrots, Catholic Answers Live, Word on Fire, The Catholic Hipster, Among the Lilies (for women), Messy Parenting, Catholic Stuff You Should Know, Do Something Beautiful, The Catholic Man Show, Catching Foxes, Liturgy Guys, Fr. Mike Schmitz. Here are the channels of Catholic radio in our area or on satellite radio: EWTN 96.5 FM Stanley / Boyd / Cadott; Relevant Radio 1050AM; The Catholic Channel, Sirius XM 129. Have it on during your ride to work, or while doing work at home. Get to confession. Come to daily Mass. Stay for the whole of Mass all the way through the final blessing. Make an act of thanksgiving after Mass. Make sure you unite your intention with the work of Christ in the moment of prayer before Mass. Sing out loud for all to hear. Make room for silence in your life. Come to Thursday Night Adoration. O Come Let us Adore Him! It is in si-lence that the Word is born. O Silent Night. O Holy Night! Have a blessed and fruitful Advent. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After serving for many years, Gerald Jackson and Julie Konzen have retired from St. Bridget's Finance Coun-cil. We are deeply grateful to them for sharing their talent as well as helping to keep us financially on track. May God reward them for their faithful service! Forty families have responded to the Diocesan Annual Appeal as of this week. Our target goal is $14,460.00 and we have received $5,535.00 so far. We have $9,125.00 to reach our target. Can each family give something to help us reach our goal? If you have lost your slip and envelope, please pick up one off the back table. Put your envelope in the collection basket or mail it directly to the Diocese. We are a "CAN DO PARISH" and I am confi-dent that we can reach our target goal. After a discussion by the Finance and Parish Council, it was decided that we would purchase several new TVs or our Rel. Ed. program and pay for them with the SCRIP fund. Our old TVs don't function well, and we can take advantage of sales at this time. We are grateful to those people who donated used TVs in the past, but we really need to update our machines. Thank you! Starting December 1st, the holy season of Advent is upon us. THE WORD AMONG US booklets are now avail-able in the back of church for free. Please pick up your copy and use each day in preparation for our celebration of the birth of Jesus. COME LORD JESUS COME!

A Bit of This and That - From Sr. Yvonne

McDonell Area Catholic Schools

First Sunday of Advent

Advent is the liturgical season in which we prepare ourselves and our homes to celebrate the birth of our Savior at Christmas. Much of this preparation is making our hearts and our homes places which joyfully welcome our God who entered into our world as a little child to save us. A great Catholic Christ-mas tradition is setting up a Nativity in our homes, as a way of showing our readiness to welcome the newborn Jesus into our homes as a family and into our hearts as individuals. May you and your families have a Blessed Advent and Christmas season! -Chaplain Rev. Ethan Hokamp

Join us in the Parade! MACS with the Chippewa Falls Catholic Community will be participating in the Bridge to Wonderland Parade whose theme is ‘A Nativity’ on Saturday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. All parishioners and families are welcome to participate.
