Estimados amigos: Una realidad constante de nuestra misión como sac-erdotes de la iglesia asi como del trabajo de la par-roquia en conjunto, es la esperanza y el deseo que tenemos de traer personas a Jesús. Cualquier perso-na que conozca y ame a Jesús, está en capacidad de comprender el llamado interno de encontrar la forma de ayudar a nuestros amigos (y miembros de la fa-milia; realmente a cualquier persona) a tener un encuentro con Jesús, que pueda mejorar sus vidas. Igualmente sabemos del desafio que puede ser lograrlo. Algunas veces nos sentimos impotentes, incluso sin esperanza. El Gran Profeta de la Presencia del Cordero, Juan el Bautista, tuvo un gran éxito al llevar personas a Jesús. Esa era la misión de su vida. Este domingo, lo encontramos encerrado en la cárcel, al haber enojado a personas poderosas debido a su constante evangelización. ¿Cuán impotente podría él haberse sentido? Pero una reflexión más profunda nos ayuda a reconocer que debido a su persistente oración y sa-crificio, Juan el Bautista pudo lograr ser productivo al hacer amigos para Jesús – sin importarle cómo lo-grarlo. Cuando sus propios discípulos lo visitan en prisión, Juan los envía a Jesús. No cabe duda que pasó días orando por el éxito de la obra salvadora de Jesús, el Cordero de Dios. ¿Cuánto más podrías ha-cer tú para asegurarte de que tus amigos encuentren a Jesús? Se creativo. Ora. Sacrifícate. No te rindas. La amistad con Jesús es el mejor regalo que podemos dar. Con mis oraciones, Padre Mateo Zuberbueler Párroco P.S. Dear Friends, A constant reality of our work as parish priests, and of the work of the parish as a whole, is the hope and desire we have of bringing people to Jesus. Anyone who knows and loves Jesus understands the interior call to find a way to help our own friends (and fami-ly members, and anyone, really) to have the encoun-ter with Jesus which can change their lives for the better. We also know the challenge that it can be to bring that about. Sometimes we feel helpless, even hopeless. The great Prophet of the Presence of the Lamb, John the Baptist, had tremendous success at bringing peo-ple to Jesus. It was his life’s mission. This Sunday we find him locked away in prison, having angered powerful people by his unrelenting preaching. How helpless he might have felt. But further reflection helps us recognize that John the Baptist, by his con-stant prayer and sacrifice, was able to be fruitful at making friends for Jesus—no matter what. When his own disciples visit him in prison, John sends them to Jesus. No doubt he spent his days praying for the success of the saving work of Jesus, the Lamb of God. How much more might you do for the sake of ensuring that your friends find Jesus? Be creative. Pray. Sacrifice. Don’t give up. Friendship with Jesus is the best gift we can give. With my prayers, Fr. El Árbol navideño generoso El Ministerio Social patrocinará un Árbol generoso de Navi-dad. El año pasado, unos 500 niños recibieron un regalo en Navidad proveniente de la generosidad de ustedes. Este año, tenemos la intención de hacer lo mismo. Las etiquetas en el Árbol de Navidad indican la edad/género del destinatario. Para esos regalos, quisiéramos sugerirles ropa de invierno, especialmente chaquetas; sin embargo, cualquier cosa es bienvenida. Giving Tree The Social Ministry will be sponsoring a Christmas Giving Tree. Last year about 500 children received a present at Christmas from your generosity. We intend to do the same this year. The labels in the Christmas Tree indicate the age/gender of the recipient. We suggest warm clothes specially jackets for presents but you can give whatever you de-cide. Bring your presents on the weekends and leave them under the Christmas Tree or at the Parish Office by Friday, December 20. Thank you for your generosity.

Capital Campaign Kickoff We are thankful for the overwhelming response from parish-ioners to the recent parish wide capital campaign feasibility study; the support for the needs facing St. Anthony was heartwarming. St. Anthony of Padua is now officially em-barking on a capital campaign to help fund this shared vision for the parish. The campaign will address sanctuary improvements, con-struction of a new food pantry building, enhancing the secu-rity of our campus, repairing of the church bells, renovating the church entryway, renovating the school HVAC and re-paying our debt to the Diocese for the Preschool and church HVAC construction. This parish, school and campus plan is a $4 million vision for the future of St. Anthony of Padua. You will be receiving a more detailed description of these plans early in the new year. Over the next several weeks and months every parish family will be asked to prayerfully consider participating and supporting this crucial endeavor.

Dear Saint Anthony Families,

We have had an eventful second week of advent, preparing all of our school’s young hearts to receive the Baby Jesus. We gathered for the school Mass on December 9 to cele-brate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and we took time to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe by asking for her intercession and enjoying some hot choc-olate. Our Lady is the prime role model in teaching us how to welcome Jesus with humili-ty and trust in our loving Father. Our students have excelled in showing they understand that it is better to give than receive. They have demonstrated during this special season of giving, by collecting donations for our parish food pantry, visiting seniors at Manor Care to do a craft and spend some time with them, and collecting toys for Student Council’s Toys for Tots Drive. I am so proud of how they have modeled Jesus this season.

This season brings to mind how blessed we all are to be able to guide our students on their faith journey as we educate them. The Saint Anthony of Padua Christmas Pageant is this Thursday, December 19 from 7:00-8:30 pm in the school gym. It is a great way to keep Christ in Christmas. It will be a night filled with the pure joy of our students, presented by our students. This is the perfect way to come together as a community in Christ and begin the Christmas season.

Stewardship Reflection-3rd Sunday of Advent

“You too must be patient. Make you hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” JAMES 5:8 Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we better align ourselves with God's will and His plan, which is far better than anything we can come up with on our own.

St. Anthony Legal Clinic The St. Anthony Legal Clinic offers free consultations on legal matters, including immigration, family law, employ-ment, and landlord/tenant matters. The Clinic meets every Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00 am, in the Church of-fice. No appointment needed, and there is no charge for the consultation. There will be no service on Saturday, De-cember 28, in between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The clinic is in need of Spanish translators and additional lawyers who could volunteer. St. Anthony of Padua Adoration Society Consider spending time with Jesus present in the Eucharist on Wednesdays and Friday evenings. Each member of the Society strives to make a Holy Hour in the Church weekly on Wednesdays (or Fri-day evenings) when the Blessed Sacrament is ex-posed on the altar. The pastor designates the moderator of the Society to keep the roll of members and maintain the schedule or adorers. Retirees, home schoolers, part-time employees, and telecommuters are among those who we hope will contribute their time and devotion. For more information, pick up a registration form in the back of the church, in the lobby, or on the church website, www.stanthonyparish.org.
