From the Pastor’s desk…..

Congratulations on your Golden Jubilee Reflec ons on approaching a 50th Anniversary-by Fr. Franey

My deepest gratitude to my parents, John and Lillian, who gave me life and my Catholic upbringing. My parents were deceased by the time the call, the vocation to priesthood, made its pres-ence known to me. My parents may not have been seated in the Cathedral for my Ordination but I am sure they were a presence in more ways than I can know. The Masses offered since my Ordination have been occasions of gratitude to the Lord for his goodness to me, for my vocation, and occasions of ongoing gratitude to my parents for whom I pray are always present when I celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

In growing up I only knew my father’s side of the family. And they have been a blessing to me, especially, my grandparents, aunts and uncles. I have a special closeness to cousins, to friends of long-standing and to a number of very special priest friends. They have always been supportive and caring.

Each of my assignments received from the Archbishop have been enriching and happy experiences. My appreciation for and understanding of the Sacred Scriptures has surely grown over the years.

Presiding for the moment from the Declaration of Faith that Jesus is the Savior of mankind, we may speak about “other saviors” in our life. In this regard, I wish to mention my priest friends and permanent deacon friends who have had such an effect on me. I’m sure they have been more of a bless-ing to me than I to them.

Finally, to reach this many years in sound mind and reasonably good health, functioning in priestly ministry, it is never redundant for me to say: Thank You, Lord. Thank You.

St. Agnes Parish is grateful to God for sending us Fr. Franey.

Thank you for your many years of service to our Church.

O SACRAMENT MOST HOLY "Jesus could have limited His presence only to the celebration of the Mass, but no! He wanted to make a permanent dwelling among us. Night and day He awaits us and offers Himself to us at all times. He is there generously to give us His gifts. He is there to draw us and lead us to paradise with Him. Oh! let us visit Him often." (St. John Bosco) Church open daily till 3 p.m. for visits before the Tabernacle. Adoration Wednesday following the 8 a.m.Mass concluding at 8 p.m. If you can only spend a few minutes He will reward you abundantly!

From Outreach Services: (The Day Room and Nurses Center)

We thank God for the exceptional generosity and good work of Maryanne Lieb RN, MSN who has for the last 14 years been the Coordinator of Nursing Services at the Saint Agnes Clinic. The Nurses Center came into being when Maryanne was a nursing instructor bringing students to the Day Room for their community health rotations. It was then that we first realized that some of our most vulnerable guests could not access much needed health care. The Saint Agnes Nurses Center was established in response to that unmet need and to the presence of the planned parenthood within the shadow of our Church.

While Maryanne is retiring as coordinator we are grateful that she will remain with us as a dedicated nurse. We welcome our new co-coordinators, Teresa Berkman, RN, MSN and Dolores Vitale RN, FCN both of whom have been volunteers at our clinic.

May God bless Maryanne, Terri and De and all of the nursing staff and our medical director, Dr. Tony Manos as they work together to form the best practice for the future as we continue the work of protect-ing life and providing physical and emotional health care to men, women and children in need.

MARRIAGE AND

THE SUPREME

COURT

For the first time in our nation’s history, the Su-preme Court is considering two cases about whether or not marriage should be redefined to include two per-sons of the same sex. These cases involve the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8, both of which define marriage as the un-ion of one man and one woman.

The Court is expected to rule on both cases by the end of June. A broad negative ruling could redefine mar-riage in the law throughout the entire country, becom-ing the “Roe v. Wade” of marriage. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has joined with many other organizations in urging the Supreme Court to uphold both DOMA and Proposition 8 and thereby to recognize the essential, irreplaceable contribution that husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, make to society, and especially to children.

WHAT YOU CAN DO PRAY, FAST, SACRIFICE

The Bishops have encouraged Catholics to partici-pate in a Call to Prayer for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty during this Year of Faith. Visit www.usccb.org/life-marriage-liberty to learn more and commit to praying and fasting for life, marriage, and religious liberty.

The Bishops have also called for a second Fortnight for Freedom June 21-July 4. Visit www.Fortnight4Freedom.org.

Please consider contributing time, talent, and/or treasure to local or national efforts seeking to pro-tect the unique meaning of marriage.

Locks of Love Wednesday, May 8th was the day of the fourth annual Locks of Love assembly at Saint Ag-nes School. Each year the Social Justice Committee sponsors various assemblies to help the children understand our responsibility to server others. Nicole Basile, grade 5, began the assembly by reading about why she and her sister Kelly, grade 8, donate their hair. They do it for love - the love of their dear aunt who is struggling with cancer. This generosity of these

young ladies seems to be contagious!

Twenty-two girls and women donated ten inches of hair this year to this worthy cause which provides wigs for patients who have faced diseases which cause hair loss. Most had their hair cut the day of our assembly by the wonderful styl-ists of BLAZE Salon, here on Market Street in West Chester. Dana, Paige, and Melissa (St. Agnes alum!) donated their time and talent to this good cause. They were so kind to the girls and did a great job styling their hair after the big cut. This is the third year BLAZE Salon supported our Locks of Love efforts. Special thanks to our Social Justice Committee for planning the event with Mrs. Charney, Mrs. Collins, and Mrs. Wiedersum.

Our generous hair donors are: Brigid Dolan, Kelly Basile, Julia Hirs, Natalie Ry-der, Tess Dever, Alyssa Manley, Monica Manley, Nicole Basile, Fernanda Mo-rales, Maya Veita, Mary Lu Wuest, Lilly Ward, Ella McGrory, Catherine Kenney-Martin, Martina Kenney-Martin, Isabella March, Delanie Rolan, Zoey Slade, Effi Kitson, parent Mrs. Lacusky, and teachers Mrs. Tracy Richmond, and Mrs. Jen-nifer Charney.

From two of our first graders: My name is Isabela and I donated my hair be-cause both of my pop-pops had cancer and lost their hair. My name is Zoey and I donated my hair because I felt bad that people were suffering and I thought it would be nice if they had one more person helping them and then we could fill their world with joy. When we were going to do Locks of Love we both felt a little scared. Then we got up on the stage and our school was cheering for us and we felt so good inside. It helped to remind us of the kids who will get our hair. We look forward to doing it again next year! God Bless children with cancer!

This year twenty boys made a financial donation and had their hair buzzed at the assembly to show their solidarity and charity. Congrats and thanks to these brave guys: Patrick Lynn, Matthew Young, Matt’s Dad Barry Young, Charlie Wuest, Peter Dolan, Quinn Keegan, Harrison Weingartner, Giulano DiLiberto, Jackson Ercole, Jackson Reed, Anthony Boffa, Carter Reed, Timmy Meyer, Wil-liam Stanley, Alex Cahill, Christopher DeLeon, Vincent Brogna, Harry Brogna, Ethan Jarden, Will Dolan, Timmy Krall, and William Higgins-Benz. Thanks also to our Dad barbers: Matt Dolan, Chuck McGrory, Scott Meyer, and Stephen Charney!

So in the end we sent about 220 inches of hair and over $200 to Locks of Love to help people in need. Not only did we offer financial assistance, we offered the gift of self. Thank you to everyone who made this assembly possible and who supported this wonderful Act of Kindness! Congratulations!
