1. Introduction Following the success of the proven SAILOR 500 and SAILOR 250 FleetBroadband, and one and a half years into the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service availability – the new benchmark for Internet at sea worldwide – Thrane & Thrane went into an agreement with Inmarsat to develop the next generation affordable maritime satcom. Actually, you could say this is the successor to the SAILOR and Nera mini-M which literally has tens of thousands of satisfied customers to this day. However, the venerable mini-M is what Inmarsat calls an “Existing & Evolved”, or E&E service running on the I-3 satellites. The coverage areas are mainly the landmasses and the major shipping routes with big holes in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean. This is really only a phone with very slow fax. The Inmarsat FB150 service however will be available worldwide and has proper packet-switched IP connectivity, just like the parents the FB250 and FB500, albeit less bandwidth.

2. SAILOR® 150 FleetBroadband – The Real Deal! Life at sea mirrors more and more the everyday life ashore when it comes to communication. Most seafarers, fishermen and yachtsmen are highly skilled people who expect to be able to stay in touch with friends and family, whether at sea or ashore. With Internet on board ships and boats can now become an integrated part of life itself. The challenge for SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband was designing a more affordable system with respectable bandwidth of more than just 128kbps or less. With the launch of the SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband, state-of-the-art technology is now available at an affordable price.

8. Competition At the time of writing this document, competition for Inmarsat FB150 in generally is from other MSS satellite operators like Iridium (OpenPort) and Thuraya (maritime, fixed). The latter is a competitor in some limited regions of the world where there is satellite service available. Iridium OpenPort equipment has a significant larger and heavier ADU which will limit the possibilities for installing the system on smaller boats.. Head-to-head competition with an Inmarsat FB150 terminal comes from Addvalue Technologies Ltd. in Singapore.

9. Why is SAILOR® 150 FleetBroadband unique? Simultaneous telephone and Internet Inmarsat L-band satellite for unchallenged reliability in all weather

11. Approvals FleetBroadband is not a part of the SOLAS requirements and therefore does not need MED (Wheelmark) type approval. Thrane & Thrane will however obtain Inmarsat approval, RTT&E and CE marking prior to first customer shipment 30 June 2009. If specific national states or classification societies require separate type approval, Thrane & Thrane is prepared to provide relevant documentation.

12. Technical Training Thrane & Thrane would like to ensure that the technical staff can be offered training immediately upon launch of SAILOR 150 FleetBroadband. It will now be part of the regular SAILOR FleetBroadband training. You can find the current training schedule on the Extranet.
