A dry spark tester is used for holiday detection if the coating thickness
exceeds 500 microns. Holiday test voltage shall be 2400 volts +50 volts.
Note: Holiday test voltage shall be 125 volts DC per 25 micrometers of
maximum coating thickness. However, to eliminate the need for
continual adjustment, a maximum voltage of 2400 volts + 50 volts may
be used for the coating thickness range 350 to 750 micrometers. (09-

Functional operation of the holiday detector is checked.
Note: It is checked by making and testing an artificial holiday in the
coating (not more than 1.6 mm diameter). If the detector is working
properly, it will signal the presence of the artificial holiday.

Holiday detector is grounded directly to the equipment being tested.
Note: The ground connection shall be made by removing a small area of
coating & attaching the ground directly to the bare surface in such a
manner that electrical arcing does not occur. If the equipment itself is
