Meeting Adjourned: 19:44 P.M. Thank You,

Greetings Rockhounds!

As many of you know, many of the clubs have been donating equipment to the Feather

River club and the Paradise club. Both clubs were devastated by the fires of last summer

and the Federation is trying to give those clubs a kickstart to get them back on their feet.

Our club has donated some casting equipment to these clubs. Our hope is that this will

help these organizations put the horrors of last summer out of their minds and allow them

some peace and joy which we all attributed to our hobby.

Until next time.

Chasing Color; Mining Boulder Opal in Australia

During their year-long “walkabout”, Geologists Dick and Mary Pat Weber visited most of the major opal mining districts of Australia. Their favorite area was the boulder opal deposits in the channel country of Queensland. Miners live under primitive and hazardous conditions in a remote area of the Outback, where there are more snakes, lizards and kangaroos than people. Unique to the region, this opal is found in massive ironstone concretions of Cretaceous age. Through the generosity of their friends at Broken River Mining, learn how this material is mined and processed in order to bring the world's most beautiful opal to market.

We have moved our meeting to the first Sunday of the month; Time is 9:30 - 11 am. I will be sharing the DVD on Franklin New Jersey, Fluorescent Capi-tal. This is part of the badge work for the Fluorescent badge. Our Little Chippers have taken models home to assemble and prepare for our showcase presentation on fossils for the society's show in Octo-ber. We will also be checking the correct way to write up labels for the specimens.

Woodland Hills Rock Chippers, Incorporated

Our organization, a non-profit corporation, was formed for educational and instructive purposes: to foster collection and study of minerals, to disseminate knowledge about them, to sponsor field trips to find them, to encourage the use of them in lapidary and faceting studies, etc. And to have one whale of a good time doing those things with all of our friends. Regular meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Re-freshments are at 6:30 p.m. Field trips are at various times throughout the month. Guests are always welcome to attend. Membership is open to interested applicants after they have attended at least two meetings. Annual dues are due in November for the following year.
