SADOLIN COLOUR CREATES A SPLASH WITH BEACH HUT TRANSFORMATION IN BOURNEMOUTH Sadolin Superdec is playing a key role in the seaside town of Bournemouth, which is using colour in an inspirational way to reflect the resort’s vibrant outlook. Forty-five beach huts at the Alum Chine area of the resort have been transformed with a pastel colour scheme, based on one of the key colour trends for 2011 forecast by The Crown Paints’ Colour Panel. The project follows on from the successful introduction of Sadolin Superdec in the town last year, where it was used to deliver inspirational shades capturing the essence of the colour spectrum from sunrise to sunset, at 75 traditionally styled, new wooden beach huts in the East Cliff area. Twelve months on, the East Cliff beach huts have been warmly received by locals and tourists, with the area already becoming firmly recognised as a magnet for colour, and film crews and artists seeking out the location as a stunning backdrop to fire the imagination. Now, with the second phase complete, Alum Chine is also making a splash in the area, and helping to set the town firmly on the map as the nation’s recognised centre for colourful, iconic beach huts. Bournemouth is home to the UK’s first purpose-built beach huts, which appreared over a hundred years ago, and today - between Alum Chine and Southbourne - there are approximately 1900 huts in prime positions along the shoreline, equating to around one in ten of the UK’s total beach hut population. Andrew Emery, Service Development Manager, at Bournemouth Borough Council, specified Sadolin Superdec both for the new beach huts at East Cliff, and for the second phase at Alum Chime - a scheme involving the refurbishment of existing huts previously painted in black and green 1950’s shades.
