A Stewardship Thought “Using God's Gifts, Doing God's Work”

“I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession.” ~Genesis 15:7 Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether your home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do you show your gratitude to God for the home He has give you? Do you make a sacrifice of any kind? Do you return any of your finances to God, investing equally in your eternal home just as you invest in your earthly home?

Some eleven days ago, we celebrated Ash Wednesday and were invited, as we are every Lent, to focus on three practices: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving (Charity). Additionally, we were reminded that these practices were not to be done for external show and for reward from other people, but rather for our own spiritual growth in our relationship with God, our Father. How might we understand and practice: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving? Prayer: In all its many forms, prayer can be seen as expressing our relationship in and our total dependence upon God. Fasting: Certainly, we should make every attempt to avoid gluttony when it comes to food, but fasting can also be extended to all the material areas of our lives. We should strive to avoid excess in all material things. In other words, to fast can very well mean to strive to live simply. Finally, Almsgiving: If we live a simple life style many of us will find we have more

resources to share with those less fortunate. Today, as we gather to celebrate the Second Sunday of Lent, we hear in our gospel reading from Luke, an account of Jesus active in our first Lenten practice: prayer. Luke tells us that: “Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.” The traditional site of the Transfiguration is Mount Tabor, which rises some 1800 feet from the plain southwest of the Sea of Galilee. All three of the synoptic gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, provide an account of the Transfiguration, and the accounts contain expressions and symbols that held significant meaning for the Hebrews and their previous experiences of God. Their inclusion indicated that Jesus, in his teachings and in his life, had completed and fulfilled all that had been prefigured in the Law and the Prophets. As we continue our Lenten journey towards Easter, let our prayer be that through Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving, we may be better servants of Jesus, the Son of God, that others may see His light, the Tabor light, shine in our words and in our actions.

Don’t forget Sacred Heart in your will. In 2020, Sacred Heart will celebrate 75 years in Warner Robins.

Pre Cana Workshop The next Marriage Workshop is Saturday,

May 11, 2019. This is a requirement for couples planning to marry in the church. Please call the

FAITH, FOOD & FELLOWSHIP Faith, Food & Fellowship takes place in the Social Hall Room #103 on Sunday mornings from 10:30am to 11:15am.

FFF follows the CCD calendar. The book is The Case for Jesus by

Dr. Brant Pietre for this session. Books are available at the class for a small fee. For more information, please

Our Lenten Program Living the Eucharist will begin on Wed, March 13. Mass at 6PM, Lenten Soup Supper at 6:30PM and Living the Eucharist Formation at 7PM in

SH 102 & 104. Dates: Wednesdays- March 13, 20, 27, April 3 & 10. Soup Supper will be provided by different Ministries of our Parish. LIVING THE EUCHARIST sign up weekends will be February 16th & 17th and February 23rd & 24th. Watch for the sign up table in the Narthex— coming soon. A Memorial Mass for Esther Kaye Bloom will be held at

Sacred Heart on March 23 at 11:00am. No plans for Rosary

or visitation at this time.

The Christian Service Center will again be distributing Easter food

baskets to families in need. There will be an Easter tree in the narthex with ornaments for suggested food items. Please bring donations to

the CSC on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 10:00am-2:00pm, or place them under the Easter tree in the narthex. Please do not leave perishable items in the

church! Monetary donations are always welcome, as well. Items are due by April 10. Thank you for your

continued generosity!

We have admitted our lives were out of control and unmanageable, and we came to believe that God could restore us. Yet still, we can still be stuck in the cycle of failure that keeps us bound by

guilt, anger, fear, and depression. This week we are going to see how to get “unstuck” by taking ACTION. How do we get past those old familiar negative barriers of pride, fear, guilt, worry, and doubt—those barriers that keep us from taking this step? We choose to commit to God’s will and control, and making that choice requires ACTION. Experience a safe and welcoming place and see what Celebrate Recovery can do for you this Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the PAC Cafeteria. God-sized problems require God-sized solutions.

MANTENTE FIRME EN EL SEÑOR

No es difícil imaginar, en esta época de guerras, que grupos malvados tiendan a la destrucción de la humanidad y locuras políticas, que las palabras de san Pablo fueron tan precisas, aún para el tiempo en que vivió. Pareciera que el mundo nunca cambia. Pablo dice “muchos se comportan como enemigos de la cruz de Cristo. Para los que piensan en cosas terrenas, su destino es la perdición. . . (Filipenses 3: 18, 19). El resultado es la destrucción de personas inocentes y del planeta mismo. Pero Pablo dice a los filipenses: “somos ciudadanos del cielo, de donde esperamos como salvador a Jesucristo el Señor” (3:20). Él “transformará nuestro cuerpo frágil en un cuerpo glorioso semejante al suyo” (3:21). Nota que él dice “cuerpo” en lugar de “cuerpos”. Él habla acerca de la completa comunidad de creyentes, quienes, siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesús y Pablo, vendrán a la gloria de Dios. Así que “¡manténganse firmes en el Señor!” (4:1).
