Dostoyevsky wrote that this painting by Hans Holbein has the power to make someone lose their Christian faith (stop believing Jesus resurrected and lived again).

Viewers leave the painting either with faith (trusting that Jesus lived again and there is hope for humans beyond death) or in unbelief (thinking that we are trapped into a universe where the dead stay dead).
