Early Music Online
A pilot project to digitise 300 of the earliest volumes of printed music from the British Library’s collections
Opening up the British Library’s music collection to all• Some of the world’s oldest and rarest printed music (ca. 21,000 images) to be made freely available online• Open educational licence to encourage use and re-purposing of content and embedding in teaching and research
Enhancing resource discovery• Detailed inventories of the books’ contents to be created for the first time, with access points for composer and title• Data to be included in British Library catalogue, COPAC and RISM music database, with links to digitised content from each
Encouraging digital scholarship• Digital images to be provided to Aruspix project, which is developing an OCR and transcription tool for early music
Sharing best practice• Results of pilot project to be shared with others involvedin the digitisation of music sources
