The Mission of St. Francis Church is to encounter the love of Christ through worship, service, and charity. In following the traditions of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we dedicate ourselves to providing a welcoming and engaging community of
faith, ministering to the poor and the sick, educating the faithful, and caring for God’s creatures as “The Little Church with the Big Heart.”

An excerpt from a letter From Cardinal Tobin celebrating Catechetical Sunday. The full letter is on our web site. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
On Sept. 20, the third Sunday of September, the U.S. Bishops call us once again to celebrate Catechetical Sunday in order to recognize and support in prayer those called to serve our parish communities in the catechetical ministry. The theme chosen for this year is “I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you” which is taken from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. In each parish, those who are called to the catechetical ministry, as catechists, parish catechetical leaders, youth ministers, Catholic School religion teacher and leaders in our RCIA processes will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry among us.
Today we continue to ask for the grace to be faithful witnesses in handing on the gift of faith. In these challenging times, our lives have been so disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The current situation has called each of us to use our creativity and to make and extra effort and sacrifice to continue to reach our young people and our families.
In our civic responsibilities we are also called to hand on what we have received—the rich social justice tradition of the Church that comes to us from the Gospels. We do this in the ways we work to protect those wo are poor and forgotten—the refugee and those who are at the margins of society, to cherish and protect the environment and reach out to all who suffer injustice and racial bigotry. This is how the vision of the Gospel calls us to hand on what has been entrusted to us to enable Jesus to be recognized in the world through our witness and our choices. Through our catechetical ministry it is the task of the Church to hand on what we have received and to make this gift of faith alive and active. May God bless you for your efforts to make Jesus present by handing on what you have received. Sincerely yours in Christ the Redeemer, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin C.SsR.
