From Fr. Joe…

You may recall that last September I was able to share the happy news that parishioner Alana Beddoe was headed off to the con-vent, joining the Little Sisters of the Poor. In late July, Alana formally entered the novitiate and took the name Sr. Helena Grace du Sacre Coeur. (Yes, the name ―Helena‖ comes from all the times she attend Mass in our own St. Helen‘s Church.) And now, more happy news! Sr. Helena‘s sister, Katrina Beddoe, is soon joining the Queenship of Mary Community (a relatively new group of sisters outside of Ottawa) as an aspirant. This will be Katrina‘s last Sunday with us, as she will be entering the commu-nity on September 8. We send her off with the promise our pray-ers! (And don‘t forget to pray for her parents, Mark and Nancy, too. It takes great sacrifice to raise two daughters with such great faith, and then let them go as they discern religious life.) Visit Fr. Joe's blog: http://fromemptyhands.blogspot.com/

Official Notice On August 3, 2018, Bishop LaValley gave his consent to the sale of St. Mary‘s Church in Lake Titus to Shawn McClain for use as a wood workshop for a purchase price of $6,000. The sale re-mains contingent on approval by the NYS Supreme Court. Peti-tion for canonical recourse must be made to Bishop LaValley.

Day of Prayer & Penance

Bishop LaValley has asked every parish in the Diocese of Ogdensburg to dedicate one day during the month of September to prayer for the healing of all victims of sexual abuse by members of the Catholic clergy and to acts of penance in reparation to the Lord for the sins

and scandals that have so grievously wounded his holy Church. Parishioners of St. André’s Parish are encouraged to observe Friday, September 7, as a day of fasting, as well as to commit to an hour of Eucharistic Adoration—day or night—and/or one of the scheduled liturgies or devotions.

Thursday, September 6 5:15pm - Holy Mass* 7:00pm - Confessions

9:00pm - Compline (Night Prayer)

* The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed at the end of Mass and Eucharistic Adoration will continue until Friday night

Friday, September 7

3:00am - Office of Readings 6:45am - Lauds (Morning Prayer)

9:00am - Holy Rosary 12:05pm - Holy Mass

3:00pm - Chaplet of the Divine Mercy 5:15pm - Vespers (Evening Prayer)

7:00pm - Holy Hour of Reparation & Benediction

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

What Happened to the Sign of Peace?

The exchange of a friendly handshake or a hug shortly before Holy Communion is a moment of peace and joy—two precious things of which every victim of sexual abuse has been robbed. Throughout this month of September, we will omit the sign of peace to stand in solidarity with all who have been hurt by the crimes and cover-up of members

of the Catholic clergy, and as a vivid reminder of the urgent need for us to be real instruments of Christ‘s peace in our broken Church and troubled world.

Words to Take to Heart…

―Our pastor typically ended his bulletin column with the catch-phrase, ‗See you in church!‘ His words encourage participation and community, but at its core the church is not a geographical location. Moreover, the ultimate role of a pastor is not to ‗see you in church,‘ but to see the church in you. … Going to church is an expression of the deeper challenge of being church. Church attendance can be an action of appearance or habit, but being church requires personal transformation. Since we are living stones, the church goes with us wherever we go and everyone we meet is experiencing the church in us.‖ (Jerry Welte)

A Prayer for Healing

Hear the humble prayer of your people, God our Father, as we implore your mercy. Bring healing to all who have suffered physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at the hands of your ministers and restore them to fullness of life. Forgive your Church for the im-mense evil that has been committed and the

great harm that has been done. Grant the grace of true repent-ance to all who have broken sacred trust, destroyed precious in-nocence, and failed to protect your beloved children entrusted to their pastoral care. Reconcile us to one another and never allow us be parted from you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

"There are three kinds of giving: grudge giving says, I have to; duty giving says, I ought to; thanksgiving says, I want to. The first comes from constraint; the second from a sense of obligation; the third from a full heart." Rev. Robert Rodenmayer

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
