FROM THE DESK OF SUPERVISOR JEAN BISHOP: Mohave County has drawn a line in the sand against proposed transfer of Colorado River water beyond rural communi-ties along the River in western Arizona to benefit larger cities elsewhere in the state.
The Mohave County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Monday, November 18 formally opposing a proposal by GSC Farm, LLC (GSC) to sell and transfer 2,083 acre-feet of fourth priority River water to the Town of Queen Creek for municipal uses in central Arizona.
“Continual raids of water rights/allocations reserved to smaller river communities to benefit larger metropolitan areas sets a bad precedent and places the water supplies of rural jurisdictions at risk,” according to Resolution 2019 – 138. “Water is one of our most precious resources that is in jeopardy of being depleted if not managed adequately.”
Similar resolutions opposing the transfer have been adopted by the County Supervisors Association of Arizona, the Mo-have County Water Authority and the Kingman and Bullhead City Councils.
Further opposition was expressed during public comment hearings conducted this week by the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR). District 5 state representative Regina Cobb, who testified in person in Phoenix, Bullhead City and Parker, and Leo Biasiucci by letter, urged the agency to reject the transfer they believe will prohibit local growth opportunity, exporting it to central Arizona.
The transfer would eliminate 484-acres of agriculture production along the River while stimulating enormously dispropor-tionate benefit in central Arizona where an impact analysis estimated annual economic activity totaling more than $307-million.
Mohave County’s public affairs consultant identified four other options the Town of Queen Creek has for securing water rather than the proposed GSC purchase.
Anyone wanting to provide input has until December 16 to email or fax written comments to Sharon Scantlebury at ADWR: [email protected] or 602-771- 8686. ADWR Director Tom Buschatzke has until mid-February to pro-vide a recommendation to the U.S. Department of the Interior.

COMMUNITY NEWS
In 2018, the printer for the Community News changed the format of how each issue is printed by using a center fold and stapled in the center. This format does make for easier reading however each issue must be in increments of 4 (12, 16 or 20 pages). This has resulted in higher printing costs and we are now must increase the prices we charge for ads. Effective immediately, prices for column width ads will be increased 50 cents to the next even dollar amount. For exam-ple, a 3-inch ad will be increased from 3.50 to 4.00. Effective January 1: non-contract quarter page ads will be $6.00; half page will be $12.00, full page ads will be $24.00 and banner ads will be $7.00. Terms for contract ads will be changed from 13 or 26 issues to 12 or 24 issues. Con-tract ad prices will remain the same,

VFW POST #11014 NEWS
The holidays are here, fall is heading into winter and the temperature is getting a bit nippier! The VFW is a great place to come and enjoy visiting with friends and family with good food and a very holiday-like atmosphere. Please remember to drive safely over the upcoming holidays. Thank you Meadview for participating in the Family Freedom Festival on November 11. Your support of this community event and movie night was greatly appreciated. Thank you to all who came out and to the Candidates from the County and State that came out to talk with their constituents. We enjoyed meeting and discussing concerns with Congress-man Gosar, Supervisor Bishop, County Treasurer Cindy Landa Cox, County Registrar Kristi Blair, County Assessor Jeanne Kentch and Penny Pew from Representative Gosar’s office. Connor Alleman, the Voice of Democracy winner, read his winning entry. He is in the 12
th grade and is an Eagle Scout.
We wish him luck in the District Competition and hope to see more of him at future events. The American Legion Riders did a great job presenting the Flag for raising. K-9’s from Mohave County Sheriff’s Office showed off their expertise. VFW programs were showcased as well as COM, Quail, the Red, White and Blue Quilters and trike rides were provided for attendees to enjoy. Thank you Mike Karesh for once again manning the Flag Disposal area. Special thanks to all who helped make this a truly wonderful event!! Thanks to all the volunteers who made the Family Freedom Festival a successful event. It is truly a team effort. The American Legion Riders led the Veterans Day Parade, the Red, White and Blue Quilters handed out 16 quilts to Veterans and received donations from the VFW, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary to help with the purchase of material to continue their beautiful and heartfelt endeavors. The Turkey Shoot was once again a success although a bit cooler than most would like. Proceeds from this event will be used to buy the gifts for Veterans living at the Boulder City VA Veterans Home and Christmas Food Boxes for those needing extra help to make their Christmas shine. Veterans’ requests have been received by the VFW Auxiliary and the shopping has begun. If you wish to donate food for the Christmas Food Baskets, the VFW and Auxiliary have collection boxes inside the entrance of the VFW. Please drop by any non-perishable food items you wish to donate. The VFW volunteers once again are stepping up and will help at the Anchor Smokehouse for their Community Thanks-giving dinner. Stacie Sue created a Candy Sleigh to benefit the VFW Arizona Charities that helps Veterans needing a little financial assistance over the holiday season and throughout the year. Please stop by and get your tickets for this delicious sweet treat. See a bartender for your chance to win this superb chocolate Christmas treat! On December 7, the VFW will have its Pearl Harbor Day Flag Raising at 11:00 am. Please come out for this remem-brance ceremony honoring those who lost their lives. There will be a lite lunch following the Flag Raising and the Com-munity is invited. Don’t forget our Taco Tuesdays and Fish Fridays as well as the Sunday Pool Tournament, Monday Darts, Thursday Wii Bowling and Saturday Shuffleboard. Please check out the VFW Facebook page and the bulletin board outside the VFW entrance for updates on events in December. Stayed turned for more information on upcoming Euchre nights.
