Sales Management CommentsThe “Round Up” in its own way, kicks off bull sale season for the 2016 buyers! This is a great established event that allows producers to buy new herdsires before the “year’s end” which has more than one advantage. It simply lets buyers feel satisfied that they have gotten a good start to their bull buying and maybe even completed it. Also, depending on your personal situation, there may be some tax benefits to buying bulls in the current year versus the next fiscal year.

The quality of the bull sale section is well known at the “Round Up” but we honestly seem to be eluded by the potential success that the females should achieve. The quality is not deficient compared to other sales &/or breeding programs but if you feel you are a savvy business person, your dollar goes further here than any other registered Simmental sale that happens annually each fall. Consider this area more serious than you have in the past, it’ll pay off.

Bull Wintering ProgramAll buyers have the option of having their yearling bulls wintered. Yearling bulls purchased for $3,000 and over will be wintered at no cost. Yearling bulls purchased for less than $3,000 will be wintered for $4.00/day. Pick up and delivery by April 1st. Bulls to be wintered require insurance.

If a bull fails the semen test or has a structural problem, the purchase price will be refunded, not a sale credit given.

MVS Drake was the heaviest calf weaned this year at 870 lbs on Aug 2. He’s been an eye catcher since birth. When we first re-entered the Simmental business back in 2005 our goal was to create a small but high caliber herd of Flecks and Purebreds. We were fortunate enough to acquire Klyber back in the fall of 2005 at the JB Livestock reduction sale, and had his presence at our place for two years. After putting him down in 2007 we struggled for six years to find a replacement for him. A bull that could create those big beefy bull calves that calved easy and then wean at the top of the herd. A bull that could create those broody females that would turn into excellent mothers…..well we found him in August 2013 at the same place that Klyber came from; JB Livestock, and it turns out he was a grandson of KLYBER. After some constant persuasion and admiration over his first calf crop, JB agreed to sell us half interest. I remember the first day I saw Walker, JB’s dad, David, told me he was the best bull they had used since KLYBER….that was the icing on the cake. Dave is a very quiet man, but I learned years ago, when he speaks, you listen. After using Walker for three years, JB sold us his half last fall. With all the calves I have seen at JB’s and with the ones we had born at our place, I have to say he is the most consistent bull I have seen. Walker and his calves have become world famous thanks to JB’s updates on Facebook, with the demand for his genetics and progeny getting larger and larger. JB has sold a handful of bull calves with great success for their new own-ers, continues to use two of his sons, and has a group of heifers that would make your mouth water.

We will be offering three of his sons this fall in the Round-Up sale and then will be debuting his female progeny at the Fleckvieh Equation Sale. We will also be offering a small semen package at the National Trust On Ice sale.

Tracker 475W is a very deep bodied and slightly larger framed black blaze bull. His mother raises a top calf each year, and has had two other sons go through this bull sale. All our Tracker calves come with a little more “oomph” at birth, but all come unassisted. Not sure if I have ever been this excited about a calf. As an attempt to add something different to the gene pool, we crossed his homo black and polled mother with Walker with the hopes of creating something unique…..boy did it work.

His dam is a cow that originated from Rob and Dee Young at High Country Cattle and was a high seller in her bred heifer year at the prestigious “Checkers” sale selling to Bar L7 cattle. We were fortunate enough to acquire her at their estate dispersal sale. She stems from the very famous Ebonys Joy cow family and her sire is the Wheatland Hummer 468P bull meaning she is line-bred HC Power Drive and a granddaughter of the famous 902J cow.

JohnnieWalker Blk is loaded with some of the best maternal genetics in the red and black world and then when you add Walker’s Fleckvieh genetics….well this calf is destined for greatness. It seems every spring and fall I hear Red and Black breeders wanting to add Fleck genetics into their herd; well this is the calf. Forget the fact that he’s not multi-generational black or polled and realize that he’s multi-generational awesome. He’s structurally correct, has huge testicles, sports that nice blaze head, smooth polled and as quiet as a kitten.

Here’s the natural calf off Parview’s Red Kyra and our KOP Tracker bull. Talk about fertility, Red Kyra calved mid-January in 2014, was flushed in March of 2014 producing 32 #1 embryos and then bred back on her first cycle to Tracker producing this guy. This guy has a half-sister at home which we had originally sold to McCormicks at Grenfell in the 2013 National Trust Sale, but ended up getting back because she was too fertile as a heifer calf. She ended up calving at 18 months of age and then jumped a fence to get bred by the neighbour’s bull 45 days later……fertility is very strong in this cow family.

This is the youngest calf in our offering giving up two months in age to the older bulls, but he is coming on and catching up every day. Tracker 531 is line-bred power so definitely don’t use him on heifers, but if you want those extra pounds each fall, then this is the guy for you. This is another calf we are extremely pleased with and excited to offer to the industry.

Terms & ConditionsTERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller.DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved.
