C H A P T E R S Since its establishment in 1983 at AmericanUniversity in Washington, D.C., Sigma IotaRho has established 182 active chapters oncampuses across 40 U.S. states. Internationally located chapters have beenestablished at the American GraduateSchool of International Relations andDiplomacy in Paris, Hult College ofInternational Business in London as well asin Iraq.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: UNDERGRADUATE MEMBERSHIP
CREDIT STANDING GPA STUDENT STATUSCOURSEWORK
Have completed courseworkin international studiesincluding courses in relevantsubject areas ofanthropology, economics,foreign languages, geography,history, political science, andother related fields.
Have attained a juniorstanding and completed atleast 21 credit hours ofcoursework toward theInternational Studies (orInternational Relations) majoror minor, including at leasttwo courses at the 300 or 400levels.
Have attained a cumulativegrade point average of 3.3 orhigher in all courses, and agrade point average of atleast 3.4 in InternationalStudies (or InternationalRelations) courses.
Must maintain full-timestudent status of at least 12hours to be a voting memberor hold an office.

As an adjunct member:
You do not have the full privileges that comewith National membership, but you will be
invited to partake in Epsilon Omicron Chapteractivities throughout the year.
You will not be required to pay the $45
membership fee until you are eligible for fullmembership.
Plan on attaining full membership upon
becoming a junior.
COURSEWORK

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP:SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
The purpose of the OdysseusAwards is to reward perserevance -like the Greek hero demonstrated
in the epic poem, The Odyssey. It isto help students who are in
financial need to further theirpursuit of international studies –such as book expenses or travel toan academic conference. Awardsrange from $250 – $500 for the
academic year and are released tothe attending institution to be
administered.
Odysseus Awards Sigma Iota Rho MeritScholarship
Research & TravelGrants
This merit-based award is given torecognize exceptional achievementin the study of international a�fairs.
It ranges from $750 – $1,000 andmay be used by the Society’smembers to meet expenses
associated with books, so�tware,and travel for research purposes (i.e.
to an archive or papers collection)or an academic conference. To
apply, students must submit thefollowing materials:
These grants are meant to supportresearch in the area of international
studies, which is generally focused in theareas of: foreign policy, security,
international political economy, trade,political and economic development,
international organizations etc.Preference is given to students
presenting their papers or participatingin beyond observer capacity an academicconference. Normally awards will not be
granted in excess of $500 per student,though exceptional projects will be
considered.

NOTIFICATION OFACCEPTANCEUpon receiving verification of yourapplication information, you will benotified via email of your acceptance. This email will include the type ofmembership in which you will receive aswell as information regarding thepayment of dues and the date of theinduction ceremony.
Please provide a brief statement of your careergoals. They need not be polished or �inalized, but a
general trajectory you would like them to take.How do you see membership in our chapter
helping you to accomplish these goals?
The information provided via theapplication will be veri�ied with the advisingo��ice. This is usually the longest step in theprocess given it relies upon the academiccalendar and the busy personal schedules of others. If you meet all the admissions requirements,you will be noti�ied of acceptance within 1 -2 weeks of your acceptance as a member ofour chapter.
