1 Introduction Project 05 served as an introduction to the animation process in Pro Engineer. The Tutorial used taught

how to create quality videos showcasing the various models we have created in Pro Engineer thus far.

2 Requirements For Project 05 we were required to follow the tutorial provided on UB Learns for Animation in Pro

Engineer. This Tutorial gave us a step by step process on how to create different types of videos as well

as incorporating various tools in those videos.

3 Results

3.1 Part A For this section of Project 05 we were instructed to create a 10 second video that showed our pulley

system from Project 02 rotating and zooming in. Some of the tools learned in this section included the

addition of various orientations in the video. Also we were told how to change the length of the video by

accessing the time bar at the bottom of the screen.

Note: The video created in this section can be seen on the webpage cited at the end of this report.

3.2 Part B For this section of Project 05 we were instructed to create another video that incorporated the pulley

system. This time however there was no rotation or zooming in on the model. This time we focused on

the separate parts of the model. The tutorial told us how to change the amount of bodies that were

recognized so that we could move each part separately, and show exploded views of the model. Also we

utilized the snapshot feature where we could move a part or group of parts, take a snapshot, and

reference that snapshot later as a position for our model in the video. This video was supposed to 20

seconds long, so as instructed we accessed the time bar at the bottom of the screen and changed it.

However, when the video was captured as instructed and opened in Quick Time to view the final

project, the time did not match the setting in Pro Engineer. Every time you set the length of the video to

be a certain amount of time, it was always shorter when viewing the movie outside of Pro Engineer. So

in order to obtain a video that was close to the required length we had to compensate in Pro Engineer.

Note: The video created in this section can be seen on the webpage cited at the end of this report.

3.3 Part C For this section of Project 05 we had to create a video that incorporated both Part A and Part B. This was

very easy. All you had to do was add both of the features from the previous sections. Again we had to

compensate to create a video that was around 20 seconds.

Note: The video created in this section can be seen on the webpage cited at the end of this report.

3.4 Mini Project The Mini Project in Project 05 incorporated all of the tools necessary to create the previous sections, as

well as some new ones. For this section we were required to zoom in on the model, rotate it 360

degrees, show and exploded view, rotate that view and then go back to the original position. The steps

followed in the previous sections were followed in this one, with a little more complexity involved. Also

as a bonus, we could utilize the transparency feature. This was a little tricky to master, however well

worth it. For this part you were required to set up multiple transparency positions for each part be used.

Also you had to evenly space out these positions so it was a smooth transition. A rendered and not

rendered video were required for this section.

Note: the videos created in this section can be seen on the webpage cited at the end of this report.

4 Discussion This project went very smoothly compared to some of the previous ones. One issue I had was

manipulating the model to rotate 360 degrees smoothly. i had to create multiple orientations to

simulate the rotation. By doing this it was not as smooth as I would have hoped. I wished there was just

an option for a rotation so that all you had to do was click a button and it would rotate. Another issue I

had was the amount of time it took for the rendered videos to be captured. To save the rendered cell

phone video it took about 45 minutes. I was able to write this report before the video was finished. Also

as stated before, the time settings were giving us problems. When you accessed the time bar and

changed the length of the video, it would not be that long when accessing the saved video through

Quick Time. I was not sure if we were supposed to use the value that the Tutorial said to use, because if

we did, the video would not be that long. So I chose to increase the value of the length of the video so

that the actual length of the video would be closer to the requirements.

5 Conclusion I realize that the goal of Project 05 was to introduce us to the animation tools in Pro Engineer. This goal

was met and I learned how to use many valuable features in this program. I believe that I have

completed Project 05 very well and look forward to using these tools in the future.
