INTRODUCTION

Steel pipes used to ensure a pressure-tight connection

Manufactured in joints that range from 16 to 48 ft

15 to 20% of the complete cost of the well

Casing serves many functions

Conductor pipe:

The conductor pipe is used tominimize hole cavingproblems.

Including the following:

Cover freshwater zone

Maintain hole integrity by

preventing caving. Provides a support for

attaching the BOP

Intermediate casing:

Its setting depth is to isolate:

Troublesome formations

Loss zones

Shallow hydrocarbon

Water sands

It has the following purposes:

Protect the production

tubing equipment. Isolate the producing zone

from the other formations

Provide a work shaft of a

known diameter to the payzone.

I. PREPARATION BEFORE RUNNING CASING:

PREVENTING MAINTENANCE:

All joints of casing should be packed in the pipe rack

and protected

Adequate spacers or stringers must be placed

between layers of the casing in the pipe rack

Mark the length, the weight, the grade and the

number of each joint.

INSPECTION:

Inspect the thread from any damage during

transportation or packing;

Clean off the thread with solvent

Run a tool rabbit into each joint, mark and lay aside

any damaged joint;

MEASURING THE PIPE:

By using a tape, the measurement should be

carefully Recorded in a tally sheet;

Retrieve of the wear bushing

Rig up casing handling and running equipment(weldlesslinks, fill-up tool, side door elevator, safety clamps, casing

slips, spider slips and elevator).

A crane is used to lift joints of casing, each joint should be

protected with a tread protector.

Lifting the casing:

Stabbing and Making-up:

Put baker lock on first joints

CONCLUSION:

casing is one of the most costly operation in the

rotary drilling so that it has to be carefully

treated and accurately measured to avoid any

undesired failure. Rigorous instructions,

preventive maintenance and special equipment

are required while running casing.
