One day we are walking along our merry way and a stranger pulls up beside us and starts a conversation. We enter into it with politeness and curiosity, but generally don’t expect a whole lot to come of it. A few weeks ago, three women showed up in church from the Farm in the Dell home for developmen- tally challenged adults that just opened near Butte. I was happy to see them and welcome them but I really didn’t expect much to come of it. A few weeks later, however, I felt like one the disciples on the road to Emmaus, sitting around a table at the Farm in the Dell home, making plans with staff and residents to have them wor- ship regularly with us. They are quite excited about this and so am I. Two of the residents are United Methodists from the Eastern part of the United States but have lived in Montana for several years. These two young women have attended worship with us for the past several weeks, along with a Farm staff- member. These young women tell me they really like it at Aldersgate. So, I made arrangements to meet with John Castle, the director of the Butte area Farm in the Dell. John invited me to visit (a hundred acre farm and ranch off the Buxton exit). It was a delightful morning complete with a tour of the new house. My visit included some careful planning of how we can best welcome the residents into our congrega- tion. The residents are so proud of their new home, their rooms and of the work they do to learn independence, job skills and relationship skills. One young woman proudly showed me the fence post she helped to install for the new gate into their yard. They all have responsibilities to care for the horses that are currently on the property. Thank you for all the prayers, cards and calls during my recovery from my knee surgery. I am blessed to be a member of Aldersgate, a community of caring, nurturing and loving people. Pam Gilman Thank you for all the flowers, cards, visitations and prayers from our Church family while I was in the hospital, nursing home and rehab. It is certainly nice to know that we have people who care. Doris Jenkins A heartfelt thank you to my church family for all the cards, prayer, phone calls and visits dur-ing my recovery. Peggy Ryan

Thank you to all who joined me in our December Advent Series! I truly treasured our time together as we studied weekly that “love

did come down in Bethlehem”. My wish for each of you is that you “find your Bethlehem in the midst of your bedlam” in this new year. And always remem-ber, “all you need is love.” Blessings, Lauren Kippen

Mission Brunch January 19th (a er worship)

This fundraiser will help the Mission Commi ee get needed supplies to complete the toiletry kits for Safe Space.

Thank you to everyone who provided Christmas presents for nursing home residents and our congregation’s shut-in mem-bers, and to the wonderful volunteers who delivered them. The staffs at the nursing homes are so grateful because without these gifts, some of their residents may not be remembered.

6th Annual Valentine Dinner

[continued from front page] Eventually the farm will have a few cattle, garden, greenhouse, sheep and poultry. All the residents learn to cook, clean and manage their own lives in addition to the farm and ranch work. A third resident, a young man, was due in that day. Eventually there will be more but I forgot the maximum at this facility. Please look up Farm in the Dell to see the website for this wonderful international program. I don’t often say this, preferring a rather minimalist approach to declaring what I think God wants for us, but I really do think this is a “God thing.” I am so impressed with the Farm in the Dell, its staff and the program which is designed to help residents become independent, self-supporting adults. I think there is so much that our congregation can do to support these special young people by providing a spiritual environment and loving Christian community. I would be glad to share more about this if you are interested. Please call 461-8321. We never know when Jesus will suddenly show up by our side as we are going along our merry way and say: “Hey there! Please slow down for a minute. There’s something I want to tell you and someone I want you to meet.” Love and blessings, Dave
