ARBORETUM TO VOLUNTEER PARK MILES: 6 RATING: 3 This trail explores several parks and neighborhoods from the Arboretum to Volunteer Park and back. The figure eight layout provides maximum variety. Sidewalks, trails through ravines and many sets of stairs make up this hike. Beautiful vistas of mountains, lake, and bay plus close up views of historic mansions are available at every turn. The hike will pass by the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery and skirt the Lakeview Cemetery, last home of many im-portant Seattle figures from the past. There is an elevation gain of 680 feet. Depending on weather and group inter-est it may be possible to visit the Conservatory ($4) or the Asian Museum of Art ($6) both located at Volunteer Park. Hikers could also explore the Lakeview Cemetery for free.Apr 6 F 9a-3:30p $10/$13 53055

COUGAR MOUNTAIN MILES: 6 RATING: 3This figure eight hike will begin at the Anti-Aircraft Site on Cougar Mountain. Hikers will follow trails that loop past Coal Creek Falls, lunch at the Nike Site, and loop back to the trailhead. Trails meander through mixed forest and wetlands. Hikers need to be prepared for exposed roots and rocks as well as muddy patches. The elevation change will be around 700 feet.Apr 20 F 9a-3:30p $10/$13 53056

GREEN RIVER NATURAL AREA MILES: 6 RATING: 3The trail starts at the edge of the Enumclaw Plateau and combines some time on a service road with an extensive trail system. There is a significant hill down to the river valley. The trails are set back from the flood zone and offer additional ups and downs. The hike will combine trails we have explored previously in addition to a new segment.Apr 27 F 9a-3:30p $10/$13 53057

WALLACE FALLS MILES: 6.5 RATING: 4 This challenging hike is listed as one of the top ten water-fall hikes in the Northwest. There are several turn around options that will determine the length and rating of the hike. The goal is to reach the valley view overlook at the top of the falls viewed from Highway 2 with an elevation change of 1350 feet. Hikers will follow the Woody Trail on the way out and return on the more regular Railroad Grade for the return. There are exposed roots and rocks but trail work has evened out some of the big steps. * Note: early departure time. May 4 F 8:30a-4p $10/$13 53058

COUGAR MOUNTAIN COAL CREEK FALLS MILES: 6 RATING: 3One of many destinations at Cougar Mountain is Coal Creek Falls. Hikers will experience moving water and mixed forest as we pass through some of the least traveled por-tions of the park. This loop hike will follow the Wild Side Trail to a connection with Shy Bear. We will enjoy the vista from Far Country Viewpoint then circumvent a large wet-land to approach Coal Creek Falls from above. Following lunch we will return to Red Town Trailhead via some his-toric archives. The trail has an elevation change of 1000+ feet May 25 F 9a-3:30p $10/$13 53059

PORT GAMBLE MILES: 5 RATING: 3Much of the former Pope and Talbot property is now a North Kitsap park accommodating hiking, biking, and horses. The hike will combine mountain bike trails with some service road time. The trail is irregular with exposed roots and spots of mud. Trekking poles will be useful. We will hike up Ranger, along Fun Forest, and down Hope as we complete a lollipop hike. Jun 1 F 8:30a-4p $10/$13 53060

Senior Savers PantryAll Seniors, regardless of income level, are welcome.

Shop for low-cost foods two days per month (see below). If you are new to the Pantry scene, what we do is purchase foods in bulk quantity at low prices and re-pack-age them into individual sizes, and pass the savings on to you. A wide variety of items are available, such as cereals, grains, cheese, spices, raisins, juice, soup, etc.

Springtime is here! There’s nothing like breathing fresh air, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin and soaking in a little Vitamin D to renew your spirit and enhance your quality of life. After being cooped up all winter, there’s nothing like seeing the beautiful signs of spring happening all around us. It’s time to get outside, go on an outing and socialize with your friends. There are so many fun (and free) things to do in Auburn. Visit one of our many parks. We have active and passive areas but most have accessible pathways to make getting outside safe and easy. Take a nature walk and look at all the buds coming up and ready to bloom. Invest in a bird feeder and enjoy hours of entertainment. While you’re out and about, stop by the food pantry at the Auburn Senior Center. A great way to stock up on items for your first barbecue of the season. So many things packaged just for you and you won’t believe the prices! Try this recipe on your next outdoor gath-ering.
