The open-throat design feeds the crop directly into a vertical bale chamber without restriction. Benefits include positive bale starts without plugging; less concern about bunched crop, dead spots or stripped leaves and more uniform tension, from the core to the outer layer.

As the bale grows in diameter, it exerts force on the bale density and belt tension system, which applies return resistance that remains consistent from the bale core to the outer shell. The result is a tight, dense bale with minimal horsepower requirements.

From the rugged, narrow tongue and constant velocity driveshaft to the double rollers on the 5400A/5500 tailgate, AGCO Hesston round balers are built for rugged dependability, reliable bale starts and maximum productivity.

cENtRAL DRIvE SyStEm

The majority of the drive system on all models is located on the left side of the baler for quicker maintenance and longer service life. The drive for the pickup and stuffer on all 5400A and 5500 Series models also features a radial pin slip clutch for added drive protection. All 5000 Series balers feature a crowned rubber top drive roller that centers the forming belts and provides a positive drive surface that results in longer belt life and less maintenance.

FEWER StOpS AND FAStER tIES

An easy-access twine box, located on the right side of the baler (except the Model 5134, which holds two twine balls between the A-frame tongue) holds up to eight balls of twine (four on the Model 5145) for fewer stops.

Every AGCO Hesston round baler features a dual twine tie system for faster bale tying.

A FIRm gRIp ON pRODUctIvIty

Bale forming belts on all models except the Model 5134 provide 90 percent bale coverage for trouble-free service and minimal leaf loss. While the Model 5134 features a mini-rough tread surface, all other models use a Wedgegrip belt with three-ply construction. Meanwhile, belts are fastened with Alligator® rivet-style lacings that deliver a long-lasting, dependable splice and ease of maintenance.

WIDE, LOW-pROFILE pIckUp

More leaves go into every bale, thanks to a low-profile pickup on all AGCO Hesston 5000 series balers. Due to the small diameter and short lift height, delicate hay moves into the bale chamber with minimal disruption or abrupt direction change.

The Models 5134 and 5145 feature 41.5- and 44.2-inch pickups respectively, which can be extended even wider with the use of optional packer wheels. The 5400A and 5500 series, on the other hand, use a set of innovative centering augers to extend the effective width of the pickup up to 83 inches for gathering in large-volume or double windrows.

The Models 5556 and 5456A also feature dual cam tracks and center bulkheads to extend service life and prevent tine bar twisting in heavy crop conditions.

A set of stuffer fingers, unique to the AGCO Hesston 5400A/5500 Series balers, smoothly moves crop material from the pickup into the open-throat bale chamber, allowing quicker bale starts and improved performance in varying crop conditions.

The AGCO Hesston 5134 and 5145 are designed for operators who need an easy to handle bale package at an affordable price.

cONvENIENt BALE SIZE

The Model 5134 is the only baler of its type in the industry that produces a 3’ x 4’ round bale. As a result, the Model 5134 can operate on as little as 30 PTO horsepower. The low bale weight and narrow width provide convenient handling, transportation and feeding.

RELIALBE SpRINg tENSION

The Model 5134 features a dual-arm spring-tension system that applies pressure to the belts with the top tensioner while the bottom tensioner creates the hard bale core. Separating the two functions provides a more consistent bale, despite the small bale size.

gENtLE, yEt pOSItIvE BALE gRIp

F ive fo rming be l t s measur ing 4.8” each, provide excellent gripping properties for quick bales starts and solid core formation… thanks in part to their “mini-rough” surface.

hIgh vALUE WIthOUt A hIgh pRIcE

Designed for operators who need a larger sized bale at an affordable price, the Model 5145 baler offers easy serviceability, low maintenance and a popular 4 X 5 bale size. Despite its economical price, it is equipped with a myriad of productivity features, including staggered belts that reduce crop accumulation; an electric twine wrap system; slip clutch protection on the driveline and the option of an automatic tie system.

AUtO-tIE OptION

The Model 5145 can be equipped with a factory-installed automatic tie option that includes both an automatic and semi-automatic mode. The control box, which is included in the package, permits manual tying and electronic control of the number of twine wraps.

DUAL tENSION SyStEm

The Model 5145 uses a single arm belt tension/density control system. A spring controls initial belt tension and is in control as the bale is started. As the bale starts to grow, a hydraulic density control system takes over, controlling the amount of density applied to the bale from core to finished bale.

ExpEct mORE AND gEt It

The Models 5545, 5546 and 5556 are designed to build 4’ X 5’, 4’ X 6’ and 5’ X 6’ bales respectively. These three models boast features that set them apart from other balers in this popular size range. Functional amenities include an extra-wide pickup with centering augers and stuffer fingers to maintain productivity; a bale-shape monitor that measures actual bale growth for better responsiveness, and an electrically-actuated auto-tie system that can be operated in both automatic and semi-automatic modes. Mesh wrap can be installed as a factory or field option on all three models for faster bale wrapping and better water-shedding ability.

AUtO OR SEmI-AUtO

Take control of the full wrapping process on the 5500 Series. In automatic mode, the baler will automatically alert the operator and begin tying or wrapping the bale as soon as the bale size has reached the preset bale size. The operator must then cycle the tailgate via the tractor hydraulic remote valve.

In the semi-automatic mode, the operator is alerted when the bale reaches the pre-selected size; but the operator must press the cycle start switch to begin the tying/wrapping process.

ISOBUS cOmpLIANt mONItORINg

All AGCO Hesston 5500 Series balers use the innovative AGCO Global Technologies Console I for monitoring and controlling all baler functions and settings. However, because the balers are ISOBUS or ISO11783 compliant, 5500 Series models can also be used with any ISO VT terminal equipped tractor without the need to purchase a separate monitor.

The Console I uses an icon-based color screen that is easily navigated by a rotary dial in combination with a set of soft keys to access all menus and settings.

A. Bale shape/bale size icons: Bale shape indicators; set bale size; auto start on/off, twine or mesh wrapping.

B. Rotary control knobC. Soft keys and functions: Manual cycle start; wrap

menu; baler settings menu; manual mode; service menu; bale counts menu.

D. Bale counters: Four separate bale counters, plus one lifetime bale count allows operators to keep track of multiple bale counts.

E. Drive/Stop Icon: Indicated by green arrow or red stop sign.

AUTOmATIc BAlING

AGCO Hesston Models 5446A and 5456A Auto-Cycle™ balers feature automatic baling in every sense of the word.

To build solid, tightly wrapped bales with an AGCO Hesston Auto-Cycle™ model, simply follow the driving lights on the control monitor, stop when instructed to do so and push a button on the control console or on the optional remote start switch.

The baler automatically wraps the bale with twine or mesh, de-clutches the baler, opens the tailgate, ejects the bale, closes the tailgate and re-engages the pickup. At that point, the monitor signals you to start a new bale.

You can even choose the amount of automatic control you prefer. Set the baler to run the entire cycle at the push of a button (Auto Kick), or set it to wrap the bale automatically

when the preset bale diameter has been reached (Auto Wrap).

A self-contained hydraulic system, which includes a pump, reservoir, oil filter and control valves, combined with state-of-the-art electronics, lets you concentrate on the field instead of the controls.

FULL-FUNctION cONtROL mONItOR

The new-generation monitor used on the 5446A and 5456A models allows the operator to observe every function of the baler, including bale diameter, bale count, twine arm position, bale ejection and tailgate position. The operator can also select bale size, twine spacing, twine end wrap position and net wrap options, as well as raise or lower the pickup — all without leaving the tractor seat. You can even select four different languages on the readout.

An electronic sensor, which determines when the pre-set number of mesh wraps have been applied, automatically ends the wrapping process and cuts the mesh. Unlike some systems, the AGCO Hesston sensor also measures true revolutions, regardless of tractor rpms or PTO speed.

The AGCO Hesston mesh wrap system is known for its simplicity. Upon actuation, the unit pivots forward until the mesh feed rolls contact the forming belts and start the wrapping process. The rolls move away as soon as the rotating bale starts pulling mesh from the mesh wrap unit.

Silage balers feature open throat and scraper on starting roll

pUt thE WRAp ON FEED QUALIty

Wrap bales faster than ever, while retaining more leaves and fine stems, with the optional mesh wrap system that is available on 5400A and 5500 Series only. Mesh-wrapped bales shed water easier so hay lasts longer and stays more palatable.

Best of all, the AGCO Hesston system can handle both standard width mesh wrap and wider mesh rolls (6 inches wider than the bale chamber) for edge-to-edge wrapping that helps hold the corners of the bale. When used with an Auto-Cycle™ model, you can even switch from twine to net wrap and back with the push of a button on the control box.

SILAgE mODELS ADD DIvERSIty

The benefits of round bale silage go well beyond the lower investment, compared to upright and pit silos. An AGCO Hesston silage special can also help you retain a higher percentage of protein and TDN for feed value, while reducing the weather dependence and worry associated with hay making. As an added benefit, silage bales can often be stored close to feeding areas and fed in a variety of ways.

Each silage model 5545, 5546, and 5446A, features special scrapers and components to reduce crop buildup when baling damp, gummy material.

On the other hand, AGCO Hesston silage balers are equally at home in dry hay. Simply pull into the field and start rolling up solid, dry bales that stack and haul with ease.

TO YOUr sPecIfIc Needs

While every AGCO Hesston baler includes features that are unavailable or optional on competitive balers, AGCO Hesston offers a variety of options to customize each model to the customers’ needs.

SILAgE kIt

Reap the benefits of round bale silage with any 5400A or 5500 Series round baler with an optional silage kit. The kit contains all the rolls, scrapers and knives that are necessary to keep material from building up in the bale chamber.

hyDRAULIc pIckUp LIFt

Raise and lower the pickup from the tractor seat with the optional hydraulic pickup lift. Benefits include increased productivity as well as less chance of pickup damage in rough fields. Optional on 5500 Series round balers and standard on 5400A Series balers.

WINDROW gAthERINg WhEELS

Available as an option on the 5134 and 5145, the windrow gathering wheels increase the effective width of the pickup and help build dense, square-shouldered bales by feeding more crop to the edges of the bale chamber.

FIRE ExtINgUIShER

Due to the flammable nature of hay, a fire extinguisher, such as the AGCO Hesston 2.5-gallon, water-filled model, is a recommended option on every baler to protect the owner’s investment in machinery and crops.

BALE RAmpS

An optional bale ramp(s), available for the 5134 and 5145, allows the operator to wrap and eject the bale without having to back up. The weight of the bale automatically forces the ramp down and the bale simply rolls away as it is ejected.
