Meeting at Café Elixir.

We had our first Stuctured Committee Meetings for the new year under the guid-ance of our President Elect Bill Kell. We sat at 2 tables with the pairing of two committees per table seated opposite each other. This was a good format that gave the members the opportunity to talk during the meal that was served. Perhaps if we have guest speakers within the Café Elixir it would be a good for-mat to have the two rows of tables again so that all guests can just turn 90 de-grees to see the speaker and screen. Also a more intimate meeting where you can talk to people opposite each other as well as next to you. There was good interaction between members and a lot of items covered so that the issues could be reported back to the board meeting that was held at the Dome Café in Wanneroo on Wednesday night. Secretary Graeme Smith can report on any major issues that require attention by the members. I have confirmed with Café Elixir that we are not there on Monday 7th April as we will be at Paul Conti’s property for our BBQ Fellowship evening. I have confirmed that we will be at the Café on the 14th and the meeting details to be confirmed by Neil Cook once he has recovered from his stint in Hospital. The 21st is Easter Monday so we won’t be having a meeting. The 28th also needs to be confirmed where we are having our meeting to inform Café Elixir. We may have a visit to Danmar Garage Doors and also Rosco McGlashan with his Jet Powered Car coming up so details will be confirmed. That will be the end of April !

Breast Cancer Care - Purple Bra Day 20th June 2013 Members are asked to look into their underwear draw to find their Bras and ensure they are not overworn. Please let Peter know if you need them replaced. We must look our best on the day. A roster will be available shortly to see how many brave souls we have.

Hi Members and Friends of all the Rotary Clubs in District 9455.

This is something you can do, you must do! Attached is a letter to The Hon. Tony Abbott MP. I believe the letter is self-explanatory but what it is asking, is for Australia to pledge a donation of $80 million over 4 years ($20 million per year) as a financial contribution towards eradicating Polio……. FOREVER! This virus can be eradicated, it will be eradicated, it must be eradicated. The possibility of doing this is so close, it is a Rotary Dream for this to happen. All that is being asked is that you sign the letter and post to Canberra as per the address listed.

If you wish you can add a Post Script (PS) of your own asking the Prime Minster to take up this challenge and why he should do so (be nice).

The ‘inside word’ is that the more letters received the greater the influence on the Prime Minister to support this initiative and the funding to go with it.

We were advised at the District Conference this last weekend that Polio is prevalent in only three countries: Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. India is recognised as being free of Polio as is Syria (I believe) in spite of their problems.

Please give this your consideration, please help to eradicate Polio. By doing this you could be saving a life or a life-time of disability for some-one, I mean, for many people…..…..”for want of a horse-shoe nail”. All it takes is ‘One Drop’ of the Polio Vaccine to save a per-son from the scourge of Polio.

Regards, Graham Peden (Secretary to the Rotary Club of Perth)

The Hon. Tony Abbott, MP

Prime Minister

Parliament House

CANBERRA ACT 2600

Dear Prime Minister

I hope that my letter finds you well.

On behalf of all the Rotarians in my club, let me begin by sincerely thanking you for agreeing to speak at

the Rotary International Convention in Sydney on 1st June 2014.

The Convention as you know will bring together more than 20,000 Rotarians from around the world.

I write to request that, as our Prime Minister, you stand shoulder to shoulder with us in our efforts to end

polio.

Specifically, we invite you to announce a new four-year pledge of $80 million to the Global Polio Eradica-

tion Initiative. Such an announcement of $20 million p.a. over four years would extend Australia's support

through to 2018 - the year by which we believe we can eradicate polio forever.

Australian leadership has been pivotal to the success of polio eradication efforts for more than three dec-

ades. Indeed, it was an Australian Rotarian - Sir Clem Renouf - who in 1979 first initiated the bid to eradi-

cate polio globally.

Additionally, it was a former Prime Minister - John Howard - who was once honoured with Rotary's Polio

Eradication Champion Award for contributing significantly towards the program.

Now, with the number of cases of polio having been reduced by 99%, Australian leadership has the poten-

tial to help make polio only the second human disease in history to be eradicated. Such a generous contri-

bution would be a fitting chapter to the Australian story. After all, it was the Australian scientist Frank Fen-

ner who

first announced that the world was free of smallpox, inspiring Sir Clem and Rotary to attempt what was then

considered impossible but is today finally within reach: a polio-free world.

In closing, I would like to thank you once again for accepting Rotary's invitation to this year's International

Convention. I look forward to your reply, to welcoming you in June and to the Australian Government's con-

tinued support.

Yours sincerely P.S. I can email the text to you to add your own message

SHANNON IS COMING TO THE REDHILL PARTY Rotary Club of Geraldton – Greenough is excited to announce that Shannon Noll and his band will be the headline act for the 2014 Redhill Concert on Saturday April 5 at Redhill Farm.

Noll, who first caught the attention of Australia after coming runner up in the first series of Australian Idol to Guy Sebastian, is one of the hardest workers in Australian music with constant touring and 5 albums under his belt.

He is the only Australian Male Artist to have 10 ARIA Top 10 singles consecutively including “Lift”, “Loud”, “Drive”, “Lonely”, “Now I Run”, “Shine”, “Learn to Fly” and the Moving Pictures’ cover “What About Me”

Redhill continues to bring quality entertainment to the people of the Midwest with an amazing show last year featuring Hoodoo Gurus and in the past have hosted acts such as James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Wendy Matthews, Mental as Anything, The Black Sorrows and Dragon to name a few.

Shannon Noll will be supported by the brilliant Australian singer/songwriter Mark Wilkinson fresh from his own US and New Zealand tours and local favourites, pub rockers C4.

The Redhill Concert is a BYO event and overnight camping is available to concert goers by a donation.

Tickets are limited and will be available from the Queens Park Theatre box office on Cathedral Avenue, The Geraldton CD Centre in the Marine Terrace Mall and Smart Mart Wonthella.

The best part of the Redhill Concert series is that all profits are placed back into community projects and those in need through Rotary.
