Fred presented the $91.00 50/50 pot to a lucky winner Pres Wayne reminded all that Sunday is our annual Be The Match drive at Mentor Medical Campus. Cliff shared his recent encounter with one of our first bone marrow matches, who re- ceived her bone marrow donation as a young child and is now a 25-year-old nurse. Press Wayne also announced that to- morrow evening's Clam Bake at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club will be indoors. Before turning to our presentations, Pres Wayne congratulated Vickie Curtis on her 29th birthday. Pres Wayne then turned the meeting over to Roger Sustar who introduced Chris Bundy, Deepwood Special Olympics Coordinator. Roger presen- ted Chris with a $500.00 check in sup- port of the annual Special Olympics golf outing. Chris presented us with a DVD highlighting the Deepwood Special Olympics program that serves 275 ath- letes in 15 sports with year-round train- ing Chris explained how Special Olympics is structured in Lake County, with the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities supporting all overhead costs for the Special Olympics program, so that all donations go 100% to the athletes and programs. Karen Bowersox, who was a recent presenter of small business develop- ment and Downs Designs, gave us a broader history of her career path...including apprenticing as a pipe-fitter, with unique experiences as the only female working in a heav- ily male-dominated trade; later de- veloping a cleaning business, and eventually the Downs Designs busi- ness. Bob Fritts, a St. Louis native who was transferred to the Mentor area in the beautiful spring months, and despite a harsh awakening to our Lake Effect winter, has now become a long-time resident of Mentor...raising his family and establishing his career as a Cer- tified Financial Planner...a business now merged with veteran Rotarian Tom Parkhurst. Marlene Pelyhes, the IT Manager at the Mentor Public Library focused her "Me" speech on the pivotal turning points in her life, including attending Youngstown State University (as did fel- low alum Wayne Brodnan), and being a Linda and Bill Gates fellow. Marlene also shared her passion for public ser- vice and the Mentor Public Library's ser- vice to the community, in particular. In keeping with our membership theme,Vickie Curtis announced plans for theOct 13th Membership meeting. Sheasked that three Rotarians volunteer tospeak at the program and share withour guests why they had initially joinedRotary and what they have learned andgained through their Rotary member-ship and experience.As a new form of membership solicita-tion, approx 45 letters were sent to localbusiness and community leaders invit-ing them to attend the meeting. Follow-up calls are being made by our Boardmembers.Past Pres Mike Scruggs emphasizedthe importance of membership solicita-tion, and reinforced Pres Wayne's goalfor membership...restoring our activemembership count to 89 members fromour current 82 members.

John Solich shared some new market-ing and PR efforts, including car decals,membership pins for anyone who has"misplaced" their pin, and "free lunch"cards to use as invitations for potentialnew members.

John also reminded all to check theMentor Patch web site for info about,and links to, Mentor Rotary.

Text messages regarding items of noteare being disseminated to anyone whosigns up with their cell phone number.Shirt orders are still being taken, andVector Printing has even offered to em-broider the Mentor Rotary logo on any

item of clothing that an individual maybring in to the shop.

Before adjourning the meeting, PresWayne thanked Nancy Sanden forhosting and catering today's meet-ing. An enthusiastic round of ap-plause for Nancy droned out the belladjourning the meeting.
