Roosters Tale Sons in Retirement Branch 110 Meeting July 22, 2019 1705 Manzanita Avenue, Chico, CALuncheon 11:30 AM Executive Committee 9:30 AM Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show The July 22, 2019 Luncheon Meeting will feature Sarah Blackstone, PhD, who will present an interesting and entertaining program that will focus on the life and times of Colonel William F. Cody, alias "Buffalo Bill," with special emphasis on his famous Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. This show, which ran from 1883 to 1913, probably did more to romanticize the taming of the American West and fire the imagination of the citizens of Europe and the Eastern United States than any other single source. Sharpshooters featured in the show, such as Annie Oakley, Johnny Baker and Colonel Cody, were the rock stars of their era. Big Sir Message Welcome fellow members to July 2019. This is indeed a very special month for all of us. At our July meeting we will be joined by fellow SIRs members from the three other Butte County branches. As far as I know, this is a first. I’m hoping that this meeting goes so well, it becomes an annual tradition with each branch rotating hosting the lunch at their annual July meeting. What a great way to spend time with our fellow members. This meeting will give us the opportunity to meet the membership of the other local branches, make new bonds, identify how we can aid in the efforts of rebuilding our Camp Fire branches and focus on the common bond we all share: SIRS. We also anticipate that our current State President Ed Benson, current Regional Director and acting Area Governor Mark Stuart, and SIRS Foundation Board President Derek Southern will be in attendance as well. This truly is a ground breaking meeting. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Dave Rush and his logistics team for coordinating and getting this meeting together. A lot of hard work has gone into the planning to ensure the successful execution of this meeting. Thanks team. 2019 Officers & Directors Big Sir Phil Morgan Little Sir Steve Laird Secretary Bob Dinger Asst. Sec. Richard Matt DB Mgr. Piscatology

While returning to the dock, You dwell on what you’ll hear. “How did you do"? They’ll ask, as you so often fear. But this day you caught a lunker and can’t wait to bend their ear. Eight of us travelled to Antelope Lake that sits at 5002 ft. in Plumas County. The wind was unkind to us and not many fish were caught. Larry Kreider and Steve George caught the most trout. Our next adventure will be to Ft. Bragg for some ocean fishing on July 23, 24 and 25. If you enjoy fishing, join us for breakfast on the second Thursday of each month at the Cozy Diner at 7:45 AM. Bob Weckerle 864-6698.

Hiking Hello all, well, summer is here and so is the heat, so let's not go hiking again until October. Hopefully, by that time, I will be finished with my treatments and will

be "back on the trail" again. Thank you all for your support these last months, it meant a lot to me and my family. I missed you all and can't wait to see you again. Jim Hertl, Chairman

Cars, Coffee & Donuts On Friday, June 28th, the group met at the Chico Air Museum for a

tour. There is a nice picture collage of the event (provided by Ray Rolls) on the SIR website under “Activities” and then “Cars, Coffee & Donuts”. JULY EVENT: The July event will be at the

residence of Dane and Jamie Hansen, 3032 Willow Bend Drive, Chico. The date is July 23, at 9 am. Dane has three beautiful Porsche's; a 1965 356

Coupe, a 1985 911 Carrera, a 2002 Porsche Boxter

plus a shop so clean you can eat off the floor!!

We will provide donuts for this event, please bring your coffee. A $2.00 donation will help pay for the donuts. See you all there. Feel free to bring your special car if you have one! For questions call Joe Silbernagel 680-1452 or my

right hand man Don Curtis 343-8893.

Out To Lunch (OTL) Out to Lunch for July Will be the 18th. The plan is to visit Square Deal Mattress Factory, for a educational tour and visit to their showroom. Woodworking Jim and Genie Currlin showed up at Bill Gebhardt’s shop with the toy box they’ve restored, along with the two original artwork panels (see photo)

that needed resizing to fit the modified toy box front and backrest. They also carried in a narrow 5-drawer dresser that needed some gluing. Bill, Craig

Lindquist, and Michael Kobelt all helped them with these repairs. Both Genie and Craig treated us to tasty little cupcakes they made. SIR member, Terry Wilson, came in to ask if we would later help him design/build a set of shelves for his bathroom, which we all agreed to do. Bill organized a drawer for small loose tools. Michael attached latches to his hand planes case (see photos).

Other visitors were Bill’s neighbor, Lance, who built several cedar landing risers to lower the vertical height of the step entry points into his house; and Bill’s son-in-law, Steve, who tinkered with electronic devices he’s creating. Wood Tip - TO BE A BETTER WOODWORKER, DO MORE WOODWORKING. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Bill’s shop. Call Bill Gebhardt at 879-0429 or Craig Lindquist at 898-8483 for info.
