From Battery Covers to Bat Caves

GM is repurposing old Volt battery covers as habitats for owls, ducks and bats.

Rather than send the Volt battery covers to the land-fill, General Motors is sending them into the wild. The company is repurpos-ing the scrapped parts as habitat for Michigan wild-life. Yay GM!

Did you know…Baby robins eat 14 feet of earthworms every day...yuck. Did you know...A lump of gold the size of a matchbox can be flat-tened into a sheet the size of a tennis court... Did you know...The opposite sides of a dice cube always add up to seven... Did you know...One quarter of the bones in your body are in your feet...

Is it ok to feed a coyote? No. NEVER FEED ANY WILD ANIMAL, including coyotes. Feeding coyotes teaches them to associate humans with food, eventually making them very bold and unafraid. Living with coyote While some people may be up-set or even frightened by the presence of coyotes, we must understand that they are not go-ing away. No amount of “control” in the United States and Canada has ever eradi-cated the coyote. Killing, remov-ing, or trapping coyotes only opens up territories and food resources. and encourages dis-persed coyotes to move in. Curious Coyote Facts • The coyote’s Latin name,

Canis latrans, translates to “barking dog.” Researchers have identified eleven forms of vocal communication used by coyotes that include yips, barks and howls.

• Coyotes are strong swim-mers and won’t hesitate to follow prey into the water.

• The coyote has earned a place in many Native Ameri-can folk stories, often por-trayed as a prankster or trickster. It is also referred to as the Medicine Dog, Brother, Old Man Coyote and Little Wolf.

• The expansion of coyotes across the United States is largely due to the nearly successful attempts to exter-minate the gray wolf, a coy-ote predator.

• The best runners among the canines, coyotes can leap fourteen feet and run 25-30 mph, reaching speeds up to 40 mph over short dis-tances.

CHEVROLET THE ONLY BRAND WITH TWO MODELS IN 2012’S 10 BEST CARS

Chevrolet was the only brand to land two of Kelley Blue Book’s picks for the 10 Best Green Cars of 2012, with 2013 Malibu Eco and 2012 Chevro-let Volt earning platitudes for their efficiency, as well as groundbreaking green technology. The Malibu and Volt are perfect ex-amples of that effort: vehicles that focus on efficiency that also offer breakthrough green technology. For example, the 2013 Malibu Eco e-Assist technology, uses power stored in the air-cooled, lithium-ion battery to provide the needed electrical boost in various driving scenarios, optimiz-ing engine and transmission opera-tion to help increase fuel economy

through: regenerative braking, en-gine start-stop functionality, aggres-sive fuel cut-off during deceleration, and the intelligent charge/discharge of the high-voltage battery. Thanks to e-Assist technology, the Malibu Eco can travel 580 highway miles between fill-ups with a 15.8-gallon fuel tank at 12-percent increase over the previous models equipped with the 2.4-liter engine. It’s not a secret that Chevrolet and GM strive to build fuel-efficient ve-hicles that fit our customers’ needs and lifestyles. And this recognition from Kelley Blue Book confirms it.
