A big thank you goes out to everyone for your overwhelming response to our call to arms. To date we have collected 1,927 signatures on our petition and I am aware that there are still several hundred not yet turned in. We have extended the date

for the petitions until the end of December so it is not too late to collect more signatures!! We will be having a meet-ing to discuss strategy and

how to implement that strategy in December. The meeting is on Thursday, December 17th at Angelo’s Pizza in Phoenix at 6:00. If you are interested, please bring your ideas and more importantly, a willingness to roll up your sleeves and

pitch in and fight! Please let me know if you plan to attend at 541-826-2052 so I have a rough idea of who to expect. We will also be inviting different user

It’s snowing again in dem dar hills! So that means it is time again for the groomer’s report. As most of you can tell, I am the grooming chairman once again. Mi-nus all the details, I am happy to once again help out my club. That means I’m writing this column again. So bare with me and my rambling on and on about how great my club is, and how much I enjoy grooming. (I really do!) I have had some wonderful support this summer in getting our 02 cat ready. Names to men-tion are: Jack Pech, Gene Bowling, Dobie Griffin, Brian Watson, Arlen Henderson, Bob Guthmiller, Jon Allen, Sherry Allen, Chuck Allen, John Wojtas, Brian Watson, Mike Schmidt, Ken Curtis and Brian Watson. (Yes, I know that I mention Brian more than once!) Our main job this summer was to remove the transfer case and have Tucker go through it. The rest of the main-tenance was changing fluids, welding up cracks, chang-ing a couple boogie wheels, pressure washing, and greasing up the cat. Anyway, we are all finished with the required maintenance and the Tucker is already back in the Cat shed. Here are some up and coming dates: 1st Aid class is November 12th. The second class is scheduled for De-cember 8th but that is not definite. Groomer’s meeting is going to be November 18th at Gene Bowling’s shop at 6:00 pm. I don’t have any info yet for chainsaw re-certification. I will be calling people that need first aid or chainsaw very soon. Other things going on is last month the grooming chairmen and the club presidents from the clubs in our region all got together with Dobie and John Spieger for a meeting last month. The meeting went very well, and I got to meet several people that I didn’t know before. Anyone interested in the grooming program please give me a call, and let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope we have a great snow year.

Some good news is that Dave Hoxie got some unex-pected time to talk with Greg Walden and had a wil-derness packet with him that he was able to share with Walden. The initial report is that he is definitely against these wilderness area! Way to go Dave...it pays to always be prepared!!!!

Have you driven down the road and noticed all the closed businesses and empty buildings? Has the economic situation caused you some hardship? Wondered what you can do to help the local econ-omy? Have you considered buying from a locally owned store? Did you know that:

There are many things to consider when deciding where to spend your money; price, availability, cus-tomer service and convenience. Let’s also take into consideration how much money returns to our lo-cal economy when we make these decisions. Whether it is $10 or $1,000, it makes a difference! And don’t forget to patronize our advertisers and sponsors who support our club and the local econ-omy!

for every $100 spent at a locally owned store, $68 returns to the community... while at national big-box stores, $43 re-turns to the community and shopping on the internet, results in nothing returning to the community...

Winter Banquet Make your reservations today for the Winter Banquet. This is always a highlight of our season as we dine on great food and drink. Our winners of the annual awards will be announced as well as over $500 worth of prizes given away. The cost hasn’t changed and is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 10. The price includes the buffet, dessert, a non-alcoholic beverage and gratuity. If you plan to stay overnight, make your reservations with Diamond Lake Lodge early! Reservations for the dinner should be turned in to Lori Jordan by December 9th. Use the form above to make your reservations o r g o o n l i n e a t www.roguesnowmobilers.com and download a copy to mail in. If the weather holds, it looks like we will have plenty of snow to ride on for the weekend so make a weekend of it. Many of us will!!

Representation – Of the $45 dues to the Rogue Snowmobilers, $25 goes to our state organization, The Oregon State Snowmobile Association. They represent snow-mobilers as an organized group and there is power in numbers. Every year more and more acres of land are no longer available for use to snowmobilers and other groups. Our organizations are dedicated to protecting our rights and keeps us informed with information important to us at both the state and national levels.

Education – We offer several FREE programs that are funded through our club. The first is our state certified Snowmobile Safety Education Program. Although this is open to all ages, it is very popular for the kids in our club as they must be certified to drive a snowmobile. We also offer free CPR classes for our groomers and then for other members on an availability basis.

Grooming – Our club has an extensive all volunteer grooming program. We groom and maintain more than 200 miles of trails. The more members we have, the more money we get for our grooming programs through funds from gas taxes and license fees. It is important to note that for each $10 snowmobile registration license fee and gas taxes, the OSSA gets over $38 to distribute to the local clubs for grooming and maintenance.

Community Service – All the work of our officers, board members, groomers and members is done on a volunteer basis. In addition, we support our community in other ways. Every year we raise money for Candlelighters (kids with cancer and their families) and also sponsor a day where the kids and their families can come up and enjoy a day riding snowmobile, playing in the snow and eating a wonderful meal. We also sponsor several families at Christmastime who might otherwise

Did you know that the Rogue Snowmobilers has a group rate to join Mercy Flights? The cost is $50 per year per household. Eligible household members consist of the head of household and immediate family members, living at the same physical location, who are legal dependents. This is a great rate for a combined ground and air transport pol-icy. For further information, or if you have any questions please call Mercy Flights at 541-858-2600 or 800-903-9000 or go to our website for an enrollment form at www.roguesnowmobilers.com

Mercy Flights H2Oregon has a great deal on the SPOT 2 Satellite GPS Messenger. They are selling them to their forum members for $149.99. H2Oregon created the Sled Safety Coopera-tive to offer quality safety products, at the best prices. They make no profit, pay no sala-ries, etc. Every penny goes back into snowmobiling efforts, education, and awareness.

Better yet, through H2Oregon and the Sled Safety Cooperative, the Rogue Snowmobil-ers can offer you the SPOT 2 for the same low price of $149.99 each. All profits from these SPOT sales go directly to our club if you order them through me. That means that our club will get $25 per unit sold.

Included in this offer is 1 year of free add-on tracking. This add-on tracking is normally $50 per year. The yearly subscription fee is $99.99 per year. For more information on the SPOT 2, go to http://www.sledsafe.com/ but be sure to order from me. Please place your order with Kim Greenwaldt by calling 826-2052 or emailing her at [email protected] . Let me know which color you want, orange or gray. All orders must be placed and paid for by December 15th. If you want to pay by credit card, you may order them from our website at www.roguesnowmobilers.com but the price is $5 more to handle the fees involved. You must have a PayPal account or sign up for one (no cost) to pay by credit card.

We ended October with the open house at Water World where Ted and his crew did an awe-some job showing off his new dealer-ship! There were great deals to be h a d o n acces-sories and snowmobiles and a nice lunch too. Thanks Ted! On Monday, with the release of the above picture of the Jordan family testing out the Skidoo’s, the value of Arctic Cat stock plum-meted sending the stock market spiraling down-ward!! We had a very colorful general meeting on No-vember 3rd as we were re-galed with tales of woe as eve-ryone competed for the nomina-tions for the Golden Helmet, the Outhouse Award and the Gris-wold's Go Snowmobiling Award. If

you have a story to tell about one of your snowmobile buddies (creative storytel-ling is a bonus), it is not too late to get it nominated for one of our prestigious awards. Either email them to a board member or come to the general meet-ing on December 1st to make your last minute nomination. We will be voting on the win-ners as well as for our Snow-mobiler of the Year

a w a r d at this m e e t -i n g . T h e winners will be revealed at our Christmas Banquet. Next up for the month was

our Snowmobile Safety class. We had 27 children and 9 adults take the class.

I am confident that the children learned quite a bit but I would watch out for those adults on the trail….they may still need

supervision!! A special thanks goes to Kristi Roe for volun-teering her time to spice up the class

and make it more interest-

ing for the kids! Thanks also goes to all of our helpers: Dennis & David Jordan, Kim Greenwaldt, Bonnie and Rebecca Bowling as well as Kristi Roe! Be sure to check out the great opportunity to pur-chase the SPOT GPS unit. It’s a great deal in addition to bringing money to the club! It

would make a great Christmas present for your favorite ourdoor en-thusiast! And now to some serious business. I have had one

go without gifts and a Christmas dinner. This year we are also sponsor-ing a blood drive and a canned food drive.

Information – Through our newsletters and web-site, we strive to keep our membership informed of important information from the political to when and where fun events are to be held.

Socializing – Last but not least, we are a very social group. We have many club sponsored rides every year which include a pot-luck afterwards where the club provides the main dish. We have club meet-ings on the first Tuesday of every month between Oc-tober and April. We have an annual Winter Banquet at Diamond Lake Resort. As you can imagine, the $20 per family membership would not begin to cover all our costs so we have our annual Mt Bailey $3000 Poker Run. This event raises the money for our club to finance our free classes, donations to the community and our social events in addition to being one of the highlights of our year. It’s a lot of work and takes many vol-unteers from our club to pull this off but it is also tons of fun.

Attendance at the annual snowmo-bile safety class held at D&S Harley was amazing. There were 27 children, ages 8-16, along with parents and other family members. Several tables were set up ahead of time, but as people kept arriving, we had to add another table, then another, then another...

The morning began with Dennis Jordan welcoming everyone. Snacks and drinks provided by the club were enjoyed by all. A short snowmobile safety video was shown and then Den-nis spoke about the history of snow-mobiles.

A new twist was added to the class this year. Participates played a game between lessons to help them learn the material. A game board was placed on each table and participants had to an-swer questions on cards about what

Page 11

they learned. To check the answer, they turned the card over and if they were right the card told them how many spaces to move.

Because the class was so large, we split everyone into two groups. David Jordan took the older participants outside to talk about the parts of a snowmobile. One little girl came in and said, “My snow-

mobile doesn’t look like that!” I took the younger kids and taught them about following the rules of the road and how to read signs they might encounter. It was a good thing I didn’t know one of the dads was a police officer or I would have been even more nervous. After these sessions participants labeled the parts on a picture of a snowmobile with the help of their booklets.

Bonnie Bowling was delightful sharing

stories about her own adventures snowmobiling as she taught everyone about proper winter clothing. Her granddaughter, Rebecca, was an excel-lent model and walked around the ta-bles to show off her attire.

Dennis taught the final session on first aid. He talked about the ABC’s — Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. We learned about important items to carry on your snow-mobile or in a pack. I think the dads were more inter-ested in Dennis’ “toys” than the kids were. Participants learned how to wrap an in-jury and how to help keep someone from getting hypo-

thermia. Then they got to practice car-ing for injured snowmobilers. Overall the day was a huge success! The only thing that would have made it better was, of course, snow!!
