Rocky Mountain Grizzly May 4, 2017 Principal’s Message We have a busy May and June! Please continue to check your child’s agenda, and the newsletter for important, upcoming dates. Thank you to all our volunteers who help out with our Running Club. Our team is open to all interested girls and boys in Grade 1-6. The goal of the RMES Running Club is to provide a fun and supportive opportunity for our children to be active and develop better fitness, self-discipline, and a dedicated attitude in all that they do. The students have been working hard for the Kikomun Cross Country Run on Friday, May 12. Runners were chosen to attend Kikomun on their placement from the Rocky Fun Run (the top ten), as well as their commitment to Running Club, attitude, sportsmanship, and effort. Athletes attending Kikomun-please remember to bring healthy snacks, water bottle, and dress for the weather. Lunch will be provided to everyone; athletes, parents, coaches, and teachers by the Lion’s Club! Just a reminder to parents and spectators that dogs are NOT allowed in the park. We will be starting our Track and Field training on May 15 for all students in Grade 3-6 from 2:06-2:56 twice a week. Students will be introduced to Track and Field skills. We will be having our school Track and Field Meet on Thursday, June 1. We are looking for parent volunteers to run the events (long jump, triple jump, ball throw, etc.). Please call the school if you can volunteer for our Track Meet! With the warmer spring weather here, students are now riding their bikes to school. Please remind your child to walk their bikes in the school ground, and wear their helmets. Another safety concern is to remind your child not to bike through the high school parking lot-it is not safe! If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress at any time during the year, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss concerns. As always, thank you for all you do for both our school and our community. Sincerely, Ms. Laura-Lee Phillips THANK YOU To all parent helpers who came out to help at our Rocky Mountain Fun Run! To Ms. Attorp and parent helpers: Adele Borys, Vanessa Smith,Nicole Arthur, Christal Klassen, Shauna Gauthier for coaching and encouraging our Rocky Mountain Runners!! RMES Staff would like to thank the RMES PAC for the great luncheon that they put on for all Staff! Birthday Wishes for the month of May go out to: Khloe Dube, Macy Murray, Claire Strachan, James Wright, Liam Hurley, Amelia Rideout, Michael Templeton, Ethan Cox, Felicia Smith, Kiara Auger, Josh Ogilvie, Cash Paton, Lilly Bennett, Davin Heath, Brendan Arthur, Taivas Wildeman, Amy MacLeod and Tyson Zwolak.

Student Learning Grant In April we were informed that the government of BC had implemented a one-time funding as a Special Grant.

The funds are intended to be spent on learning resources, supplies, and equipment to help ensure that classrooms are well-resourced and students are well-supported through the implementation of the new curriculum and other learning innovations.

Here at RMES, we have purchased rulers, scissors, protractors and calculators for the classrooms. We have also ordered more iPads, to bring our total to 20, and we are looking into purchasing a class set of snowshoes.

Book Fair Our Spring Book Fair is May 15 – 18

Parents, you can contribute to your child’s classroom library by buying a book from the Fair. Ask your child’s teacher about their Classroom Wish List: books that would be a wonderful addition to the classroom!

Come and watch our Intermediate students perform on their guitars and recorders!!

VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL • In an effort to increase the safety and security of students and staff at RMES, VISITORS ARE ASKED

TO CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE. • Since class disruptions should be kept to a minimum, visitors are asked to leave messages or items

brought to school at the office, complete with the student's name. • Volunteers at Elkford Schools are requested to complete a criminal records check. This is a district

initiative to ensure the safety of our children.
