ROCKET PROJECT

Page 2: Rocket project 2014 updated

Objective To design an experiment

with a model air rocket showing your knowledge of IV, DV and CV• IV: independent

variable• DV: dependent variable• CV: control variable• You also need to be

able to follow the logical steps of scientific inquiry and present a typed report of your investigation.

What comes first?

First we need to come up with a question: In this project I will help you out. Your question is …

How can I make a rocket fly farther? Then you need an independent variable

… your turn!! All of us will have the same dependent

variable … How far the rocket flies. We will all have different control variables.

Page 4: Rocket project 2014 updated

THEN WHAT?

Then you need to think about the materials you will use to build your rockets.

You will make a minimum of 3 and a maximum of five air rockets that test the independent variable you chose.

Time for background research!!

Do you know how to come up with keywords?

Do you know how to search for information using appropriate resources?

Do you know how to take notes without plagiarizing?

Do you know how to use easy bib? You will soon!!!! We are off to the library!!!!

FINALLY WE BUILD A ROCKET … MINI LAUNCH TIME

Launch 1: Launch your miniature air rocket blowing through a straw

(you MUST be wearing goggles for launches!!)

Page 7: Rocket project 2014 updated

Launch 2: Launch your miniature air rocket

attempting to hit a moving planet

(try and imagine how difficult it is to launch a rocket from planet earth and succeed in having it landing on the moon which is orbiting around planet earth!!).

Page 8: Rocket project 2014 updated

Now you have experience building a rocket (the mini one

and the larger one for your project use the same steps)

Time to write down your procedure. Remember you need to be really specific because someone else should be able to follow the steps you say and make exactly the same rocket.

Let’s start building!!!

Page 10: Rocket project 2014 updated

Once you have made your rockets it will be time to launch them.

LAUNCH DAY!!

Let’s go collect our data.

Time to clean up your rockets!!!

Time to write up our project

In this final step we learn how to use word, make graphs and tables on the computer, write a conclusion for our investigation and print and send our work as an attachment in an email.

That’s all folks. Now let’s get to work and make this thing happen
