Product ConceptThe MQ Rock Breaker Boom is a hydraulically operated mechanical arm fitted with a hydraulic breaker. When mounted in close proximity to the primary crusher it allows blockages to be removed and obstructions to be cleared.

Increased Production and Improved SafetyThe installation of an MQ Rock Breaker Boom greatly improves productivity, maintaining production capacity by preventing the crusher from clogging and averting bridging in the feeder and jaw. The boom is used to resize oversized material and also to rake obstructed or bridged material towards the crusher, thus ensuring that the primary crusher operates at its full capacity at all times. This has significant economic benefits for the quarry operator as the MQ boom quickly pays for itself in increased production. Therefore the installation of a MQ boom represents a simple and highly cost-effective means for a quarry operator to eliminate some of the most hazardous operations found in the industry. A strong safety policy makes long term business sense.

Built-in ReliabilityOur MQ Rock Breaker Boom Systems are designed and built to withstand the destructive nature of their intended application. They are manufactured with the use of components that exceed design requirements and therefore ensure the boom a long service life and minimum maintenance requirements.

McQuaid Engineering Ltd’s range of Static Pedestal Boom Systems are designed for use on Jaw, Impact, Cone and Gyratory crushers as well as other applications such as breaking oversized material on the Grizzly.

Our Static Pedestal Boom range consists of 7 models with horizontal reach of 3m to 7.5m. Manufactured from the highest quality materials to withstand the toughest of applications, the range is built to ensure safety and increased production. To date our Pedestal Boom Systems have been successfully installed by industry leading firms such as Tarmac, Lafarge, Aggregate Industries, Hanson, Roadstone, Cemex (Readymix) and Quinn Group.

Our team of designers are on hand to help you select the correct boom for your application. When selecting a Pedestal Rock Breaker Boom System you need to consider two key factors, it’s Location and the Breaker Size required.

When looking at the Location you need to consider where best the boom can be positioned so it that it can provide;

• Optimum coverage to break oversized material whilst allowing ability to rake material into the crusher • Operator and service/maintenance personnel accessibility to the boom, pedestal and breaker.

• Safe working position for the operator whilst maintaining an optimum view.

The Breaker Size is also an important factor as it affects the efficiency of the boom. You must consider how often it will be necessary to break oversized material and how hard the material is.

The MQ Mobile Boom Systems are specifically designed for mobile crusher applications. Their compact dimensions enable the boom to remain on the crusher during transport thus eliminating down-time on site for assembly and disassembly.

By design the mobile boom systems integrate onto ALL makes and models of mobile crushers. As a general rule the boom systems are powered directly from the mobile crushers own hydraulic system, therefore eliminating the need in most cases for a separate hydraulic power supply.

Our Mobile Boom range consists of 8 models with horizontal reach of 1.9m to 5.4m, catering for a large variety of different sizes of mobile crusher and mounting conditions. To date our Mobile Boom systems have been successfully installed onto a wide range of mobile crusher makes and models including; Kleemann, Terex Finlay, Terex Pegson, Extec, Metso/ Nordberg, Fintec, Hartl-Crushtek, Hartl-Powercrusher, Parker, Tesab, Gipo and Continental Nord.

MCM2400FBThe MCM2400FB model Mobile Boom is a variation of the standard MCM2400. It is ideal for an application whereby integrating extended supporting steelwork onto the crusher is not an option.

The boom has a lower column in comparison to the standard, allowing it to fold into a very compact position for transport.

Mobile Boom Systems

MCM2400The MCM2400 model Mobile Boom is lightweight and compact. It is ideal for integration onto small to medium size mobile crushers. By design this boom can be mounted close beside the jaw allowing the boom to be mounted using the crushers existing structural steelwork. The boom has 2 jibs and operates on a 180 degree slewing system.

Selecting the right Mobile Boom

We can offer a boom system for ALL makes and models of mobile crusher and our team of engineers are on hand to help you select the correct boom.

Key factors to consider when selecting a mobile boom are the Transport Requirement, Size of Breaker and Boom Function.

• Is there a requirement for the boom to be attached to the mobile crusher?

• What size is the oversized material?

• Is the boom required to break material in the feeder and rake material into the crusher?

At McQuaid Engineering Ltd we offer a complete boom system package to our customers. Along with our Rock Breaker Boom, we can also supply the Hydraulic Breaker, Hydraulic Power Unit, Operating Controls, Supporting Platform and Full Installation.

Hydraulic BreakersWe offer the option of supplying a hydraulic breaker with the boom. We can source and supply any make or model of hydraulic breaker that the customer wishes. It is also possible to use an existing breaker. If the customer wishes to procure their own beaker or use an existing one, a custom made breaker bracket will be manufactured and dispatched with the boom and the hydraulic circuit will be appropriately adjusted to ensure optimum performance.

Hydraulic Power UnitAs standard, all MQ boom systems destined for static applications are supplied with a high specification hydraulic power unit as shown below. The unit comprises a high efficiency electric motor, a large displacement hydraulic pump and a high capacity reservoir.

We also offer two remote control options, radio remote and umbilical cable. Both come with an extremely compact and lightweight yet remarkably robust and reliable hand unit. The hand unit (as illustrated) permits easy configuration of the boom functions – function speed and function responsiveness can be adjusted at the touch of a button without alteration to the hydraulic system. The hand unit also incorporates an accessible stop button. Importantly the hand held unit gives the operator the freedom to position themselves where they can best observe the area the breaker is working in at all times, all while maintaining a safe distance.

When supplying a remote control system we generally mount manual controls on the booms base as a back up to the remote control unit supplied. This allows the boom to be controlled both manually and remotely.

Installation ServiceTo assist the customer in choosing the correct boom system, our engineer, on request, will visit the site and take relevant measurements in order for our designers to create 3D installation drawings. As illustrated below, the drawings will show the full movement parameters of the boom including movement within the jaw, feeder and hopper.

MQ Boom System Package

Operating ControlsMcQuaid Engineering Ltd offer a range of manual and remote proportional control options for operating the MQ boom system.

The standard control system is a multi-lever manual proportional control valve bank. The manual control valve is often mounted on the machine base (as illustrated).

Alternatively the valve bank can be mounted on an independent stand, positioned in a safe area whilst allowing the operator to have a good view of the area around the jaw, feeder and hopper.
