The Manchester Monarchs are proud to share in the induction of the following individuals into the New Hampshire
Legends of Hockey Hall of Fame!
Dick Bradley paved the way for hockey for Berlin High School. The Watertown, Massachusetts native was a starting
goaltender for his high school and went on to compete between the pipes for Boston University. He served as the
back-up goaltender for the rst Boston University team to make the NCAA tournament in 1949-50 and was the
starter for the team his senior year. Following a short stint as an extra goaltender for the Boston Bruins, he served
two and a half years in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1954, Bradley took a physical education position with the Berlin
Public Schools and also became the coach of Berlin High Schools hockey team. With limited ice availability at
Notre Dame Arena, Bradley reached out to his old teammates to get ice time at any and all available rinks. He
spread the word about the successful hockey program and within two years, he doubled the amount of games the
Berlin Mountaineers played. The games between Berlin and Notre Dame became famous across northern New
England and led to the citys moniker, Hockey Town USA.
Beatrice Bea Lambert was the glue that kept the Berlin Maroons together and helped them build up to be national
champions twice in the 1960s. As a Berlin native and lifelong hockey fan, Lambert watched the growth of the
Maroons from the beginning. She became the secretary of the team in the 1950s and spearheaded fundraising to
keep the club aoat and became the rst woman to serve on the board of directors for the New England Amateur
Hockey Association. She served as a director for NEAHA for three years and secretary for seven years. In addition
to her duties as secretary, she also wrote up publicity for the local newspapers, served as team statistician and
handled payroll. Following the tragic cave-in of the Notre Dame Arena in 1969, Lambert was integral in fundraising
and helped make sure the new building was ready for hockey less than a year later.
Ted Rice is considered one of t he best players in Concords history and one of only a handful of players to play for
the Concord Hockey Club, the Millville Bruins and Sacred Heart during the golden era of senior hockey in Concord.
Rice began his career with the Concord Hockey Club in 1931 before organizing the Millville Bruins who proved to
be a formidable opponent to the established Sacre Couers. He was the star attraction for the Bruins, both home
and on the road. When the Bruins dissolved in 1937, Rice went on to play six seasons for Sacred Heart. He played
all positions, forward, defense and even goaltender when needed. His hockey career lasted two decades before he
retired in 1943. However, Rice did come out of retirement for one more season in 1945-46.
Mark Stuckey is a native of Concord, New Hampshire who had a stellar professional hockey career over in Europe.
He grew up on the campus of St. Pauls School where his father was a teacher and hockey coach. He played hockey
for Hotchkiss School before going to Princeton where he set a new freshman scoring record in 1971-72 and was
awarded the teams Hobey Baker Trophy. Stuckey was one of the last players cut from the 1975 U.S. Olympic Team
before his career took him over to Europe. He played overseas for nearly two decades in Italy and Switzerland.
Following his playing career, he coached professionally in Italy and Germany for 10 years before becoming a golf
instructor, which hes done for the last 15 years.
Harvey Smith may never have stepped onto the ice as a hockey player but with three decades of broadcasting high
school hockey games, he was a true pioneer of the sport in New Hampshire. He began broadcasting games on
WKXL in Concord in 1979 with play-by-play announcer Jim Rivers. The duo broadcasted more than 1,000 games
together, in all sports. They became the longest running continuous broadcast team in high school sports in the
country. In addition to Rivers, Smith has shared the booth with legendary broadcasters like Dick Osborne, Jim
Jeannotte, Gardner Hill and Ken Cail for various sports. He was also an accomplished coach as his boys tennis
teams at Concord High School won 14 Class L Championships. He was named Coach of the Year in 1988 and
his 527 wins were the sixth-most all-time nationally. He also coached cross country teams at Bishop Brady and
Simonds (now Kearsarge) to 10 state titles.
