“Hi I’m John,I work as a lung consultant I the hospital. I live in South Ribble. I see daily, the issues air pollution causes in the population, particularly in the inner-city.
Being forced to drive my diesel Audi everyday was killing me: I wanted for some time to make a difference, but my wife said it was too dangerous to cycle to work. The new cycleway along green routes and through Broadgate allows me a safe and faster way to town, without polluting. I’m feeling fitter myself.”

.
Hi I’m Deepti,
“I’ve lived in Broadgate for some time, and my kids are teenagers, so I have a little more time on my hands than I used to have. I’ve started my own urban farm growing hard-to-get Asian vegetables, which I sell at the weekend in the new public space.
I’m meeting so many more people now, and the new public park allows my kids to hang out in the evening without annoying people. The new river works are much safer, and I don’t worry about my kids drowning any more.”

Pre-study: constraints of the future
§ Amsterdam can produce insufficient renewable power on its surfaces. The demand needs to be reduced, and the city has to procure sustainably.
§ Waste incineration cannot function as sustainable source in the long run.
§ Deep geothermal can replace heat from fossil fuel and waste only partly.
§ There is too little biogas and hydrogen to replace natural gas significantly.
Therefore:§ Be smart with high-temperature (HT) heat:– Shift from HT to MT or LT where possible– Do not connect new buildings to HT (or MT) grids (not necessary)
§ Let’s not make new buildings a problem for the future. We have plenty already.

Amsterdam’s assignment:§ New construction gasless, all-electric, at least energy neutral.
§ 7,000 renovation projects simultaneously, until 2040.Labour for 14,000 construction workers and 2,000 installers.
§ 26,000 new connections to the heat grid, annually, until 2030.This comes down to the roll-out of 78 km of heat pipe per annum.
§ 20 geothermal doublets, until 2030, up to a capacity of 3.5 PJ.
§ 100 wind turbines of 4 MW within the municipal boundaries.
§ 28 ha of PV panels on roofs and other surfaces, annually. This is 650 panels per working day. For 22 years 96 installers will be continuously on the job.
§ 2200 GWh import of sustainable power in 2040. This equals 146 7.5-MW marine turbines on the North Sea, or 14.7 km2 of PV elsewhere in the Netherlands.

Giet it oan?
Plan for Eleven Cities Tour in 2020, 2021 or 2022§ Energy transition to all-electric: frisian
renovation to heat pump systems
§ Eleven Cities trajectory becomes the heat source for heating in winter (aquathermal)
§ 10% of Frisian households (29,000)connected to the route
§ 10,000 heat pumps (10 kW) extracts exactly what these households need in winter and thereby they cool the water by 4oC
§ 26 wind turbines (4 MW) required for the electricity
