As we move into this next four weeks, we take in the bigger story of God’s great love for us as outlined in the words of Ephesians 2:4-10 “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions— it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Maybe some of our students will only be able to remember a section of this Scripture and that’s OK because it’s all good and we need to allow time for it to soak into us. Even though some of us don’t always realise it, we so need God’s great mercy and grace to build up in us and flow out of our lives toward those who are around us but what is this mercy and grace? I’m sure there are many scholarly definitions of God’s mercy and God’s grace but they will probably go something like this: Mercy, God’s compassion and kind patience shown to us even though we have offended His ways and have been enemies against Him. Grace, God’s unmerited favour on us. His goodness toward us even though we have no reason to expect it or have done anything to deserve it. Let’s be people, young or old, who welcome God’s grace and mercy in our own lives and freely reflect that character toward the others around us. Mercy & Grace

Over the last four weeks it has been very good to

be reminded, in the Scripture verses we have been

focussing on, to look up to the heavens in wonder

and praise at our all-powerful creator God who in

every way cares for us. As we move into this next

four weeks, we take in the bigger story of God’s

great love for us as outlined in the words of

Ephesians 2:4-10 “But because of his great love for

us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with

Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—

it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised

us up with Christ and seated us with him in the

heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the

coming ages he might show the incomparable

riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in

Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved,

through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is

the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can

boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in

Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared

in advance for us to do.”

Maybe some of our students will only be able to

remember a section of this Scripture and that’s OK

because it’s all good and we need to allow time

for it to soak into us. Even though some of us

don’t always realise it, we so need God’s great

mercy and grace to build up in us and flow out of

our lives toward those who are around us but

what is this mercy and grace? I’m sure there are

many scholarly definitions of God’s mercy and

God’s grace but they will probably go something

like this:

Mercy, God’s compassion and kind patience

shown to us even though we have offended His

ways and have been enemies against Him.

Grace, God’s unmerited favour on us. His

goodness toward us even though we have no

reason to expect it or have done anything to

deserve it.

Let’s be people, young or old, who welcome

God’s grace and mercy in our own lives and freely

reflect that character toward the others around us.

RCCC Board Meeting

Last Wednesday evening the school Board met for a usual

monthly meeting. 2018 finished off well and the annual

financial audit process is underway. It has been a relatively

smooth start to the year and the Board’s next meeting is

scheduled for Wednesday evening March 20th.

The current Board members are Peter Costello (Chairman),

Glenn Mackenzie, Ruth Broad, Chris Smith and Greg Jasper.

If you need to communicate with the Board, I may be able

to assist with that or you can contact Peter Costello through

the school front office. Peter Nelson
