3.Job Role research

Page 21: Riot Games Research

I locked the various jobs that this company offers and the most suitable for me is Senior Concept artist. This position meet my needs completely because it combines my love to draw traditionally - sketches and concepts of characters, with 3D modelling visualisation of the idea. I have to develop the champion with other people from the team. Combine the basic ideas and the sketches to refined character that looks enough confident and realistic on the screen. Job Location Santa Monica, California, United States.

3.1.Job Role Overview

Page 22: Riot Games Research

• Multi-dimensional: experience and knowledge with pad and pencil, same as Photoshop and similar 2D software; you’re also comfortable to experiment with ZBrush and other 3D programs

• Genre-bending: ready to make experiments and don’t afraid to try something new, undiscovered and never tried; ready to dive in brainstorm with ideas forgetting about the stereotypes and the boundaries

• Anatomically correct: strong understanding of human and animal anatomy, but not afraid to exaggerated, stylized proportions feel perfectly balanced in your hands

• A player-focused gamer: as an avid League of Legends player yourself, gaming have to be part of you like your trusty pen and sketchpad; and together with you art personality never let this gamer spirit to be lost

3.2.Recruitments:

• Artistic and prolific: good eye and knowledge for lighting, colour, form and composition; fast making and visualising of sketches, quickly generating ideas knowing that sometimes it takes a hundred good ones to get to the great one

• An experienced collaborator: your artistic hand reflects years of experience refining your craft, but you’re also a natural collaborator; allow constructive critic, also ready to combine ideas and be capable to defend your own

Page 23: Riot Games Research

3.3.Duties• Sketch, ideate and iterate new champion

concepts in collaboration with fellow concept artists

• Collaborate closely with writers, animators, game engineers and splash artists to define champions that are both narrative and visually cohesive

• Develop detailed concept art and orthographs for 3D designers and animators to implement into working models

• Be an avid researcher and collector of story tropes, archetypes and narrative devices of all kind

• Challenge video game conventions and explore new territory for the League of Legends IP

Page 24: Riot Games Research

3.4.How to Apply:• I have made a research now to apply looked in twitter and LinkedIn accounts but can’t find this one person responsible for

hiring people. I guess the final word would be given by the Leadership team, which is logical. However, to apply you will need CV, Cover Letter and Striking Portfolio. Also good, well known blog and the portfolio must show your strengths, talents and make that ‘WOW’ effect. The cover letter could be addressed with ‘Dear Rioters’ or ‘Dear Riot’, which lead me to the taught that it is not a single man that takes decisions.
